The Stranger

The Stranger is a new character for Binding of Isaac Repentance.
This character can take many forms and be played in various ways depending on the role you choose.

After choosing The Stranger from the main menu, you will be presented with several role cards. Each role has its own stats, costumes and starting items (like Eden, but you can choose which items to start with!)

You can choose the roles with the movement keys, and see the starting items with the left/right shooting keys (the descriptions only appear if you have the Eternal Item Descriptions mod).

Be careful however, just like Eden, a certain price may be asked to be able to play the desired role. You will earn a Boss Token each time a Boss Room has been cleared (regardless of the character played, not necessarily The Stranger). Use the Boss Tokens to be able to play the characters who will ask for the price.

Boss tokens are limited to 99, so don't forget to use them!



Tainted Stranger works exactly like the Stranger, except that it was created to use mods. If you are familiar with creating mods, then you can add your own character roles, which may or may not use your own items and / or costumes.
You will find a file named "custom_role_example.lua" in the mod directory, which will tell you how to create a role from your mod.

Tainted Stranger comes with a base role (as well as a new item) and 3 other roles using items from these mods (which must be active for these two cards to be visible):

Some roles are locked and cannot be played / purchased until you have killed a certain boss with a certain role.

Since the starting items are no longer random, and can be very powerful, the starting treasure room will not give you any additional items (a chest will appear instead).

Some roles can't earn Boss Tokens (a crossed out skull will tell you, on the card).

With the Birthright item, you earn 2 Boss Tokens when clearing a boss room.

Currently the character has 32 different roles, some of them need to be unlocked.

NEW ! If you want to fully enjoy the character without having to unlock everything, just type "freeroles" in the console: this will temporarily unlock all available content, for free.
Note however that the competition marks of each character will not be saved.

NEW ! With Old Wardrobe, you can reequip the defaut costume of your role with the Adv. Cosmetics tab.

NEW ! You can use up and down keys to scroll roles by 10.
You can use the bomb button to select a random role.
