Mining Optional
Abandoned Settlements is an expansion for the Modular Encounters mod by MeridiusIX.

This mod provides an alternative route to bootstrap your survival start on atmospheric planets. No longer do you need to mine for resources, you can salvage!

Explore
As you explore your environment you will encounter the dilapidated remains of those who have come before; abandoned mines, settlements and workshops. Some are safe to plunder, others have the remnants of automated defenses you will have to avoid or disable. Settlements are generated every few kilometres you travel and are most likely found around flat terrain.

Unique
Each settlement is created from random elements, meaning no two settlements are quite alike.

Difficulty
Encounter Difficulty - ★★☆☆☆ - Minimal
- Some encounters are defended but the choice to engage is yours.
- Many defenses are switchable if your prefer lower risk.

Grid Difficulty - ★★★☆☆ - Average
- Grid defenses scale with your threat score
- Threat score is calculated by the number of certain blocks you own.
- Early encounters should give you a fairly easy ride
- As your ability to deal damage increases, so does the risk.

Encounter Type - Planetary Installations
- planets with atmosphere, no drones, no inhibitors

V2 Release Notes
  • 18 New encounters, including mines, workshops and towns
  • 60 New Prefabs including some of the new Warfare blocks
  • Replaced blinky antenna signals with GPS coordinates, this helps keep your screen clearer and improves battery time
  • Optional AiEnabled Integration (requires AiEnabled mod) - spawns bots to defend settlements
  • Better DNSK support (requires Daily Needs Survival Kit mod) - spawns food and drinks loot
  • Improved loot balance with better progression - even if you're stranded miles from anywhere you should be able to salvage enough to survive.
  • Added Admin options to prevent turrets and bots spawning
  • + behind the scenes improvements to allow future expansion

v1.0 has been retired but is available here.

If this uses the SCRP faction then can that be changed to something else so this mod can be used WITH others that do something similar?

Can't get this mod to work with other MES mods, any reason for this or a way to make these spawn more often? singleplayer world with friends nothing complex, wanting to run reavers and independant contractors, imber corp and parralax.

Why don't buildings appear when I start the world map of Perth? Maybe something needs to be entered into chat? Or should buildings appear on their own?

Can someone please tell me what file to edit to raise distance of spawning settlements? How can we limit the spawn? I have TOO MUCH spawned settlements and i would prefer to have them spawning at every 50km instead (or maybe more)

Do you need to have the respawn pod for this mod to spawn new settlements? I have a save where I demolished the pod and I don’t get any spawns. I have another save where I kept the pod and it works fine.

Does this mod add a new NPC faction? I'm having isses with NPC faction overriding which stops the save from loading.

Maybe try deleting the mod's files and redownloading?
I had a weird issue with stuff kinda half-spawning until I did that.
