And truth be told, it is a kinda crappy map anyway...not too much to it....just BLAH...
YES, there ARE METHODS AND MODS to increase the viewing distance of grass!
They DO exist! BOTH!
You just did not put forth the effort to find them.... ;)

To help any others. There are usually 2 ways to see/tell if a mod is 'dead':
#1 - Last time the mod was updated. MAKE SURE it is NOT 'completed'. If so, there SHOULD BE NO updates. If it IS complete, then you HAVE TO use #2 as a 'guide'.
#2 - How 'active' is the dev on the mod's page? Do they answer every question right away or are they off 'hiding' somewhere?
A good example of this is to look at my mod's page and you will see #2 in action VERY clearly.

In this mod's case @Deuce, BOTH apply, thus why I agree with you that this DOES appear to be a 'dead mod'.

BEWARE: ALL computers and ALL computer programs WILL SLOW DOWN (lag), the larger the number of items it must handle. This INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO: # of players, # of objects, size of map, # of objects to be drawn (dynamic), lighting, and MANY MORE!.
So, yes, you can 'bump it up', BUT SOMETHING ELSE WILL SLOW DOWN!
