In boxing history, the date of June 28, 1997 is remembered most by the event known as the "Bite Heard 'Round the World." Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield met at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada for a highly anticipated rematch. Holyfield had upset Tyson in the original fight, but the mystique around the "Baddest Man on the Planet" was still intact.

As the two fought, Tyson complained of Holyfield using his head, literally and frequently, and, by the third round had enough. Following a few sharp punches, Tyson leaned into a clinch and viscerally bit into his opponent's ear, tearing off a piece. Holyfield lept around in a circle, confounded at his opponent's erratic behavior and amazingly, referee Mills Lane allowed the fight to continue, until Tyson again bit Holyfield at which point a disqualification was inevitable.
