Dodge to the side, not backwards!

*Place below other combat mods. You should not use the fast dodging mod with this because I changed the dodge speed to a setting that works better for this mod. You can keep it if you want your character hopping around like they're on cocaine though.*

This mod is under the MIT License. You're free to modify and redistribute it without permission.



Update (disclaimer): Characters with a low dodge skill level will get hit more than before. This is because the old dodge would get them out of the way, but this mod means that if the character dodges a slow attack, they will need to make multiple dice rolls to keep dodging (if the attack animation is, say, longer than the dodge animation) since they are still in range. So in short: This dodge is worse at lower levels but exponentially better at high levels. At least your low level fighters will train their toughness faster :^)

In Kenshi, Martial Arts has a glaring problem: the dodge. Even if you disable the matrix dodge and speed up the fast one, it still sucks and seems counter-intuitive to the martial arts play style.

Martial Arts requires your character to be close, but the dodge (despite making you invincible) will actively pull your character away from the fight. This means 1) they rarely attack and 2) it's super boring to watch.

So I changed it. Now instead of hopping back, you hop around your enemies. The animation is the same duration as before but now it puts you in a more advantageous and sensible position: near your enemy.

This mod doesn't fix dodge-locking completely however I have found that my fighters are much more aggressive now that their only defense option puts them right in their enemies' faces.

Other mods I highly recommend with this:
-Faster Martial Arts (though I recommend editing it to remove having moves unlock 15 levels early or using a patch that I made for that >here<.)
-Martial Arts: Always Attack
-More Combat Animation

If you're still updating the custom races patch, the Whistler's main race may need to be re-done. The vanilla leftover assets were deleted from the game a while back, and the mod re-added it, but it means the ID to apply the animations to is different now.

If you have custom race this wont work, unless you load FCS and place the animations into your custom race, I dunno how to do it and i've got project kathun going which heavily modifies custom race, seems like the 2 would clash unless maybe you had kathun and this both installed, then duplicated say Twi'lek and created say 'Ascended Twi'lek' and maybe it would have both dodge anims and lightsaber anims. Then you can modify your heal rate or racials or whatever

idk how to fix mine but the enemies strafe but my character doesn't strafe. I tried to import but still the issue is there.
