Description
One thing I've always wanted out of Black Mesa (which they have since removed) was the ability to stain your weapons in different ways.
It's a subtle but immersive way of showing damage and other effects that bring the world to life.
Shoot someone at point blank range and you're certain to catch a lot of blood spurting on you.
So I took that concept a bit further and added a whole bunch of different things that can stain and clean your viewmodel.


Media
Most of the pictures were taken on gm_construct.
Some were taken on gm_vytern using StormFox.


Features
  • Viewmodel gets covered in different kinds of blood when you take damage or stand near someone who takes damage.
  • Viewmodel can also get covered in dirt, blood or snow when walking around.
  • Works on most weapons (With compatability for FA:S 2.0 and CW:2 because I use them).
  • Blood can be removed with map-cleanup, swimming in water or standing in rain.

Notes
Your viewmodel gets blood stains whenever you or someone next to you gets damaged.
When walking on different materials you also get stains on your viewmodel.
If you crouch-walk or prone you'll get bigger stains since you're closer to the ground.
Diving in water or standing in rain (If you have StormFox) removes the stains.


Options/Convars
Server options can be found in Options > Viewmodel Stains > Admin Settings.
Client options can be found in Options > Viewmodel Stains > Settings.

Admin
vms_sv_enable <0/1> - Enables or disables the addon for all clients.
vms_sv_step <0/1> - Enables or disables footstep-stains for all clients.
vms_sv_distance <number> - The maximum distance for blood to reach players.

Client
vms_cl_enable <0/1> - Enables or disables the addon for the client.
vms_cl_step <0/1> - Whether walking on materials should stain your weapon.
vms_cl_scale <number> - Scale of viewmodel stains.
vms_cl_time <number> - Lifetime of stains. After this time all stains are cleaned.


Supported addons
These are addons that I have added manual support for. Most other weapon-addons should work fine.


FAQ
Q: Why doesn't this work on all weapons?
A: Some materials have specific settings which get ruined if you mess too much with it. This is not anything I can fix.

Q: Why doesn't it work with [INSERT WEAPON PACK]?
A: Most possibly because that weapon pack uses a custom viewmodel.
CW2 and FA:S 2.0 use custom viewmodels so I had to add them manually.
If there's enough demand I'll try to add support for requested weapon packs.

Q: Why does it stain my playermodel too?
A: Some playermodels use the same materials for the hands as the playermodel itself.
It's not meant to happen, but there's not much I can do about it.


Conflicts
Blood and Gore Overhaul
BGO only conflicts with the addon if you have weapon bloodstains enabled.

it's really cool but there's a bug because of how this addon works i guess

if you stain your weapon, smg for example, npc holding the same weapon will have his weapon stained too. and if you just spawn the weapon on the ground it will be stained too. basically, it stains the model itself, not just your viewmodel
