The history of Iceland is a long and adventurous saga filled with many transitions and discoveries. When the first Viking settlers arrived in Iceland in the late 9th century A.D., they found an uninhabited island. Today Iceland is a thoroughly modern country - but evidence of past times and their rich cultural heritage is still visible everywhere you look.

According to Landnámabók (a medieval manuscript detailing the Norse settlement of Iceland), Ingólfur Arnarson Arnarson is widely ascribed to have been one of the first permanent settlers of Iceland.

Iceland:

Unique Ability: Sagas of the Icelanders - Historic Moments provide Great Writer Points. Natural Wonders, Volcanoes, and Geothermal Fissures provide +1 Appeal to adjacent tiles, and these features each provide +1 Amenity if at least one is present in the city.

Unique Unit: Lawspeaker - A special type of Great Person only available to Iceland. Their abilities augment your Great Works of Writing. Earn a Lawspeaker on constructing the Government Plaza or any of its buildings; adopting a Government from a new tier for the first time; and when you are first to adopt a Government from any tier.

Unique District: Torfbæir - A district unique to Iceland replacing the Aqueduct district. Instead of the Aqueduct's usual restrictions and bonuses, Torfbæir provide +3 Housing, +1 Food and +1 Production. This increases to +4 , +2, +2, on Charming tiles, or to +5, +3, +3 on Breathtaking tiles. Torfbæir cannot be built on Desert tiles.

Ingólfur Arnarson:

Leader Ability: Book of Settlements - Settlers and Recon units receive +1 Movement, +1 Sight. Cities on tiles with Charming Appeal or better receive Loyalty equal to the tile’s Appeal. When placing a district on a tile with Breathtaking Appeal, receive a burst of Production towards that district.

Agenda: Bay of Smoke - Likes civilizations that explore the map and have settled near Natural Wonders. Dislikes civilizations that have no interest in exploring.

Why are the comments saying this guy is unbalanced??!? Played with reserves and religion rush obviously for this guy being related to appeal but turned out to be completely dead if there's not a city state I'm suzerain of blocking the way from Australia to me. Super lacking production and science. And the spawn is not binded with geothermal or volcanoes.

Super minor thing but when looking at my relationship with AI Iceland I get a bonus for "LOC_DIPLO_MODIFIER_SUK_BAY_OF_SMOKE_KUDOS". Sounds like the agenda actually works but isn't loading the right next

It's amazing that you were able to rig this model and get a voice actor for him. But boy does poor Ingolfur need a better mic.

Ever since installing this mod this guy has somehow both been in almost every game AND been my biggest rival/thorn in my side, has become one of my "beef on sight" leaders next to Alexander. 10/10 also very fun to play as him with the unique unit

Ive made a mod that changes abilities of your Iceland civilization.
I wanted to make my own civilization but Its my first mod so I didnt want to do all the hard work like graphics or civilopedia entries but I also didnt want to change any civilization from base game so I decided to use a modded one and since your civilizations are one of my favourites I used yours.
Are you okay with me uploading it to workshop? (of course I will credit you properly)

Also could we get berserker's for Iceland as I'm sure that it was the vikings that settled on that island

The concept of The Lawspeaker is brilliant. It enhances the Icelandic Civilisation into something quite special.

Is there any chance of a mod that would make the Lawspeaker available to Norway as an add-on?

Seems fine at first in WorldBuilder but then crashes at launch and doesn't show up again as a leader option back in the map editor.
