It would be significantly easier to create an ability type, or multiple ability types to grant the bonuses you want. Gauntlet's Race Mod on Nexus mods adds some pretty cool abilities and can give you an idea of the kind of things you can do.
If your going to mod tho, I strongly recommend getting Notepad ++. It is free, and among other things helps remember what variables you have already used and on can use the find tool to search for tags and it will highlight the open and close brackets.
When commenting out code, if there is already a comment inside what your trying to take out it will not work.
