Downloading/uploading an ISO from the workshop
The way the workshop for PE currently works is not the same as normal. Subscribing to an item via steam will not work. In order to download an ISO, do the following:

1. Launch PE
2. Enter multiplayer mode.
3. Create a multiplayer character (or select one if you already have one), and start.
4. When at the multiplayer lobby, you will see a workshop button on the top of the screen. Click on that. Browse the database, locating your desired ISO, and press the download button.

This will add it to a tab in your creation system window called "Downloads". Enter any game desired (single or multi) and open your creation system. Browse to that tab and double click your downloaded ISO. Provided you have the necessary components to craft the ISO, you can click the button at the very bottom right of the screen that is labeled "Export". This will create the item and add it to your inventory.

In order to upload one of your own ISO's, follow the same steps to browse the ISO database. One of the tabs (should be on the very far right) in that database window is titled "local". Select that tab, and select your desired ISO to upload. Press the upload button, and it should be taken care of.

The workshop can be accessed in any multiplayer mode ingame aswell. It is one of the small buttons on the top right of the screen (though this will change when 0.9's UI goes live)

Thanks!
Good to know.
Strange that it isn't available from the main menu or in single player, which would make it more accessable.

Planet explorers can be played without an internet connection. The reason it's only available in multiplayer is due to you being connected to the servers at that point. I guess an alternative would be to have that available even on singleplayer and have it attempt to connect to the service, but at the same time the multiplayer login is a validation process, and using the services without that validation is probably not going to happen. I can't argue about why or why not though, as I am not a dev nor do i make those decisions. This may even change later in the game, I do not know.

Yeah.
I do hope they make that an option in all game modes, in time. :-)

Does this mean that workshop items are ONLY available in multiplayer? In other words if you download something in multiplayer mode does it become available in single-player also?

Once you've downloaded the ISO file from the workshop, you can export it in any mode, including singleplayer. :)

Hello , I'm new to the game. I'll put my vote in for expanding the workshop access and interface. The workshop is the main reason I play building games, so being able to get into the game and realize an idea and build it up quickly is important.

It is also very nice to see the workshop available on the game page of my Steam Client, it is the first thing I look at each morning. I check the most popular items and see where my stuff is.

The people who play for the adventure, the gamestory, and for pvp combat- they come and they go. Ive seen a lot of players in my support of another EA game. The long-term players, the ones who will still be there in a year from now, they are the designers and builders. They are all about the workshop. You could have John Steinbeck write your game story, and hire a bunch of voice actors. After a year, theres only so many grapes of wrath that one can eat.

That said, I am really enjoying the game so far. I am getting used to the movement system and camera controls. There is a good community in place, so Ill be watching the develpoment. Great work!

Cheers!

You should really try to change the way the workshop works with the game, it feels very tedious to manage more than a few blueprints.

Will this be fixed where you can download all items from the normal workshop?

thanks - I know this is an old post, but I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why the couple of ISO's I selected in Steam never showed up : )

There is no way that it can be so difficult to implement something that every other game out there that uses the Workshop has managed to have no trouble with.

I was also able to throw together a kludge in 5 minutes to get the Steam Workshop to work, except that it lists a heck of a lot of obsolete guns.

Why isn't this a high priority to fix? There should be zero need to "log into muliplayer" to do something that the Steam Workshop is designed for.

The steam workshop for PE is actually being used in a way that i've yet to see any other game use it for. There are two parts to it's use that PE is utilizing, and the other may be interfering with the workshop subscribing out of game.

As for if that is fixable, let alone "easy", I wish i knew. It's not a high priority atm though, because the function works ingame.
If the functionality of the workshop is changed though, it's likely the steam workshop would require a full wipe, as the file the workshop is distributing (Yes, it is giving you a file) is not a .visco. It's what the game uses for other functions, and is not really intended to be distributed. There would be no way to fix all the currently uploaded files to give a .visco. They would need to be re-uploaded.

I am using the above method to try downloading new ISOs. But when I get to the In-game workshop, all of the items are "Unknown" "Uploader:Unknown"

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a fix? what the what!

There is a ton of good stuff on the workshop that we can't use because of this system. It doesnt directly transfer to the games workshop. They are seperate entities.
