CONTEXT

I have been experiencing hard lock, freezing when loading into campaign field battles; these experiences were on a fresh install of Windows 11 24H2 and Rome Total War II.

After a few moments of troubleshooting, I have discovered one root causes in my situation: corrupt DirectX Redistributable files (.dll),

To begin the process of rectifying corrupt DirectX Redistributable files on your system, they must first be cleanly removed. Luckily, there is a simple uninstaller script available the link below:

Unpack the archive into a folder and run the script as administrator. Once it completes (should take no more than a few seconds), restart your system

For context, this script is prepared by a modding team involved in a Fallout New Vegas conversion mod (Tale of Two Wastelands). Regardless, the script is good universal tool if you ever suspect your DirectX .dll files have been corrupted.

Lastly, a clean install of the complete DirectX Redistributables is needed. You can access the complete redistributables here:

Run the installer and then restart your system.
