I cannot economically or ethically defend paying double the price of the base game, for one single truck that was once free, that i've used before.
Welp im gonna try to get my hands on the haterbilt

Viper's Peterbilt can be downloaded from Youtube actually. Look for the Haterbilt. It is the same truck. And it's free.
It was updated a week ago!
He literally linked to the Workshop mod of the 351 you said was "gone", then you said it was old but it was updated on 19 April...
That might be why there is confusion here because they are not mentioning the truck.
True, none of us can read minds
SCS should look to Farming Simulator (which ironically has more semi mods than ATS does) for how to handle it. Paid mods are against the TOS, but modders that upload to their inbuilt mod system can get rewarded/paid for downloads.
You say "paid mods" are killing the Game (completely false, and completely unrelated to the game popularity, since paid mods are not supported, endorsed, or promoted by the Game Developer) and that "paid mods" are "stifling new mods" .. but then go on to propose a way to pay mod creators.
It seems more likely that "free mods" are getting more scarce because those who create them are getting better at their skills, and are finally realizing the Value of their time and effort.
- It seems far more likely that the ingratitude expressed by many in this thread is what is killing free mods .. comments like "We live in the era of "this is popular, I can probably make a buck out of it"." .. A good truck mod, with a full custom interior, and sounds/engines can easily take many HUNDREDS of hours to create, and it seems many think they are entitled to that time and effort, at no cost to themselves.
No, you are not entitled to other people's hard work for no cost to yourself.
- I wonder why no one seems to think the same thing about the game, why do you not feel entitled to have and play the basic vanilla game for free?
- Do you think it takes any less work, time, or effort for an independent 3D artist to build a Truck model than it does for the professional studio who is given CAD drawings by the Truck Manufacturer as part of their Licensing agreement?
Quality rarely changes for these people. They put out the bare minimum because they know people will buy it regardless.
As someone who has made over 2,000 mods since the launch of ETS2, the main reason I decided not to publicly mod for ATS was because of all the paid modders stealing my content and making money off of it.
Most of them don't make the models, they buy them from turbosquid and similar sites. They only convert them to game format and edit them to their desire. It takes them a lot less time than you seem to think.
Because SCS do it legally?
Actually yes. As I said they buy the models or take other people's free work. SCS do all the modelling themselves. Give or take that one truck they outsourced.
I know it doesn't apply to all modders, I'm sure there's a tiny group of 3 or 4 that are legit. But most are not.
The amount of paid mods I banned from SCS forum, before SCS decided to make Paid mods a no-no, for stealing content would probably shock you. And these were well known and respected authors stealing work.
