Vehicle rust decal

Is there a way to except some part of model or materials from getting rust decal with wear accumulation? Not everything is ferrous and looks really bad in some cases.

I think that rust decal is only a single file that is overlaid on the main texture. So the only way is to plan around the UV map of the model not to touch that rust spots.
