Make sure you are not in world something mode, that will orient and cause moving things according to the world orientation and not locally bound to the highlighted brick. Use second move mode, the reticle will darken and the mouse pointer becomes active so grab and use the widgets. Second move mode combined with not-world-something mode will allow intuitive manipulation of brick movements.
