Otherwise I deduce that they time out eventually, but the timer seems to stop if you're not near them.
And yeah, considering these "oil" spills happened when I pumped seawater out of the ballast of a NUCLEAR submarine that contained no oil of any kind, it's a mess.
It happened when I kept exploding my new ship on mines to test its survivability and it also has large open (when large custom doors are open) lower deck, contents of which (air) apparently turns into oil when it floods. I did sink it several times without reverting the world over multiple sessions and each time it leaked like 100000 liters of diesel which apparently turned into oil as well. The map view played at maybe 6 fps. In game view didn't slow that much I think but the map was barely usable. And my computer is fairly decent so that shouldn't be the reason. I guess rendering so many ui elements just slows things down badly. Couldn't really even see my ship on the map to reset it back to workbench.
But yeah the oil leak system is majorly bugged. Hopefully it will be fixed eventually as I like the idea but as is it just ruins everything.
Before the update, I had a steam airship that could land in the water and was very functional as a ship (though at 20kts in the water, it wasn't fast.) It had grapplers on the bottom that could lift just about any damn thing, including the hospital boats, and airlift them anywhere.
It's not rigged for a condenser; it was made when desalinators worked. Steam lines and vents are everywhere. All it's good for now is making more freshwater "oil" spills, which it does whenever it's launched and promptly boils off all its water. I dunno how hard it would be to rework it and I'm scared to try.
Nothing is contained in the scene.xml file anymore, so it's probably in the Vehicles section of the directory for that save... which has hundreds of files for me to hunt through for it.
So... now how the hell do I get rid of this piece of sunken debris that refuses to let me attach stuff to it?
Diesel IS oil...
Yes it is but it should evaporate after a while unlike actual raw oil stuff. But in the game it turns into normal crude oil slicks like air does as well in flooded open areas.
