Some time ago, I made a mod to demonstrate how new plant species can be made. It features a mushroom that yields ore.

Alternatively, you can easily mod any tamed animal species to yield ore if you wish. Sydtrakked does it to the Shriekers in the Creature Overhaul mod.

I will definitely check out these mods. So far, I have only installed smaller ones that add single features.

Do these mods disable achievements?

One more thing...
Do you plan to add this type of features to the game? (other ways of obtaining metal)

I must admit that I love this game, but in the later stages of the game, obtaining metal is quite monotonous. Even speeding up the time to the max doesn't help much :/
Almost everything requires this raw material.
