There are hundreds of ore detector mods on the workshop. A large number of them are very old yet many still work as advertised... the way the detector is processed and the results are filtered has changed many times during the course of development, especially when used on or in close proximity to planets. They will now only indicate a single instance of each ore, not necessarily the largest or closest. I see no reason in the stock game why you should be experiencing what you describe, but it could be the result of a combination of mods, amongst other things.

There is a common bug that can cause the Ore Detector to become limited. Logging off and back on again will often fix it.

Wow... I've never heard of any bugs like that affecting Space Engineers >.> :D

Ok i have found the evildoer. I use Azimuth Ore Detectors with the Automated Beam Drill. Azimuth works well. But in the servival game the Automated Beam Drill caped the ore detectore range to 500M. There is also the hint in all Beam drills written "scanning range cappen to 500.00 meters"
