VRO vs Classic Mode vs Vanilla
Can someone with experience with both those mods (VRO and Classic Mode) tell me how they compare with the standard X4? Combat, economy, faction balance. The more info the better :)

Sure, VRO is my favorite mod for X4 and I won't play without it.

VRO rebalances all the ships and guns in X4 in extreme ways. For one all the ships get internal shield generators so a capital ship can't be made defenseless by taking out the external shield generators. (They still lose most of the shield capacity but the regen is from the internal ones.)

Fighters are no longer ungodly brokenly unthinkably overpowered with VRO. (In vanilla fighters beat literally EVERYTHING.) Fighters now have to be equipped for the right job with the new completely redone weapons and turrets. Capital ships are now very powerful and durable and able to kill fighters with ease if fit with anti-fighter turrets. M turrets are actually useful as well with VRO, not just L turrets.

Stations are nerfed in weapons count per module to balance them in terms of cost to power. (Defense stations no longer wipe the floor with entire capital fleets for 1/4th the cost. Still strong though, just not brokenly so.)

VRO also adds new ships from other popular mods, not that many, but it gives each faction a battleship finally, and adds several new frigates and other misc ships.

VRO upgrades the xenon ships as well, in both more powerful weapons to keep pace with the other factions, but also gives them better counters and more turrets to cover blind spots that make the xenon so pathetic in vanilla. The fighters get a plasma cannon to deal damage to larger targets, the P corvette gets better anti-fighters weapons and a missile launcher so it's not helpless against fighters anymore. The K and I get new giant xenon laser cannons that swiftly annhilate small fighter wings. The new xenon destroyer which is just a K model gets a massive anti-capital missile turret/system for killing capitals. And the I just gets turned into more death incarnate.

Then VRO also starts each faction off with far more combat ships in general. But they don't last long as the mod doesn't touch the economy other than the prices of ships so once they explode they rarely get replaced. (ANT is down from 60+ capital and 400 corvettes to 0 capitals, 16 corvettes and some fighters due to fighting the terrans just 20 hours into the game.)
