Blank pattern thumbnails
Sometimes, when you upload a pattern or level, the thumbnail will not appear on the workshop, and the preview image with just be a black square.

There is a fix for this coming in a future patch.

In the meantime, if you re-upload the same item a second time, the thumbnail should appear.

EDIT: This is now fixed in version 1.0.12. If you have an older pattern that doesn't have a thumbnail, you can go into Mek-a-Snek and click "update on steam workshop" to fix it.
