Mod ideas
Hey guys,

I don't actually have the game, though I would be more inclined to buy the game after certain features were implemented or at least modded by the community. This is what this thread is for, general points that may get the old Sim Tower fans into the game.

If the developers don't create this content, it doesn't mean that the modding community can't, right?

Note that I have not played the game, Project Highrise, nor have I looked too much into the game itself. I sorta just found Sim Tower to play with every few years due to nostalgia.

1; Elevator Management - Yes, it is a pain to new players. But diehard fans loved this aspect. This included selective floors, multiple cabs, double cabs and different types of Elevators. Including vehicle elevators for parking lots or trash collectors.

Personal Thoughts on Elevators; Oddly, from some posts on the forum about elevator management, people fail to realize that older buildings in the world today (In america and canada mainly) did Elevator management actually occur. Certain buildings having multiple elevators that only went to certain floors (Odd floors, Even floors, etc) was done to control traffic on the ground / main floors of skyscrapers. It was a common practice in the 1940-1970's construction due to technological constraints. Nowadays, cables, wiring, etc - are a lot stronger and so buildings have no issues with tall elevators (Even with skyscrapers swaying due to height)

2; Escalators - Not really a must, but some would enjoy this feature to speed up people going up and down stairwells.

3; Outdoor Stairwells / Fire Escapes / Second Layered Stairwells (3d effect / Overlapping stairwells) - Not really something I actually used a lot personally. But still a few people asking about this.

4; Vehicle Interaction - Garbage Collectors, Car parks, etc. It was fun trying to micromanage such things.

5; Height Restriction? - I actually don't know if there is a height restriction or not. If there is one, mod to remove it. Or at least a mod to add in Roof Content, like helicoptor pads, etc.

Anyone else want to add anything? Note that the developers are "looking into" certain designs and other such factors, but this could or may take longer. They may not even choose the designs you want, so why not take a step forward and start scripting for the fans? ^_^

Hi, actually modding is limited to esthetic only assets.

You can find tutorials linked here.

It took only a few weeks with Cities Skylines before we saw the first true mods that broke away from the canned assets that those devs allowed the community to manipulate. I wouldn't put it past modders to crack the code behind this game to create true mods similar to what Drakol's proposing. :steamhappy:

Ideas: definitely escalators...+ movie theatre, driving range (golf), basketball court, swimming pool, ability to make outdoor areas on high floors, casinos

So I wonder what the policy is on people modding it more than that ;)

There are actually escalators implemented into the game, however the button to build them was removed from the construction tab.

They just act like fast stairs, I'm assuming they were removed because they don't really fill a niche given how just generally better elevators are compared to stairs.

The lots are height restricted (exactly how restricted depends on which you choose), but those are easily edited within the settings.scm. I've tested up to about 200 floors with no obvious issues, although I didn't build anything complicated for obvious reasons. You do a lot of scrolling to reach that height and it's obviously the interface is designed with 100 or so being the maximum. I doubt the game would remain performant at heights like that with a large base.

I had a cool idea, not sure if someone already said it. I think an auto dealership would be really cool for the ground floor of a building with high prestige. I was wondering if the devs could give any pointers when designing in the current style of the game?

So even if the Entities.scm is changed, they will not take effect on the game?
