Mod idea: Call of Cthulhu sequel
First, if you've never read any of the horror stories by H.P. Lovecraft, I recommend you go to Youtube and type in "Lovecraft audiobook". His works are both a gold mine of horror/scifi/fantasy, and they are in the public domain.

The themes and monsters of Lovecraft's extended universe fit in well with the Shadowrun universe. In fact, we know that one of the functions the dragons serve is to keep at bay horrors from outside normal space/time which would consume the world. Lovecraft wrote about such horrors in his novels. One of them was mighty Cthulhu.

What would you guys think of a mod styled after "The Call of Cthulhu"? Styled like a squel. Let's say that the stars are right once again and Cthulhu is telepathically reaching out to his cult around the world to release him from his slumber in the city of R'lyeh, which is about to rise from the ocean? The goal of the game would be to keep him imprisoned.

If you lose, Cthulhu gets out. In the epliogue he overpowers the first dragon that comes to face him, then lets in more horrors like Dagon, Hydra, Hastur, and Yog Sothoth who together overpower the other dragons, leading to much the same event as the "Unintended Consequences" ending of Dragonfall where you let the bad guys win. If you win, the epilogue mentions that mighty Cthulhu will just wait for the next time when the stars will be right to try and rise again. After all, "That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange eons even death may die."

The real question is how to set up the plot of such a game. How would you go about getting your shadowrunner involved? How would your team unravel the mystery and come to the city of R'lyeh?

I'd play it.
As for getting them into it; something with investigating missing person >finds weird cult > find deep one half-breeds > Deep One habitation > ??? > Showdown?
That's all I can really think of for the moment, but might be a good start point.

You know, that's actually a good starting point. Fleshing out the minor details is where I'm hurting for plot development.

Most of the Harebrained stories start with looking for someone, and just spiral out from there. I figure you could use that as a sort of outline and break it down section by section.

What if it started with a mission to steal the Necronomicon from the Miskatonic University library where it is kept under lock and key? Or rather with a job offer to steal it from a shady client who later turns out to be a leader in the Cthulhu Cult. If you take the job, you are next contacted by a professor at Miskatonic U to get it back (he saw your face on a hidden security camera and happens to have a friend who is a fixer that has contacts among Shadow Runners). If you don't take the job because it seems fishy, then that same professor still reaches out to you through the afore mentioned fixer to get it back since he has little faith in the police to retrieve stolen items of this sort. This professor seems to have an unusual amount of resources to pull on for a man of his position, and it is later found out that he is backed by Saeder-Krupp who has a vested interest in keeping the Old Ones from rising.

Sometimes you need to talk to people to get the creative juices flowing.

So let me think; book job > track down wierd employer who stole book > have some side adventures in the process > find weird cult > find frog/fish people who used to be from Insmouth > find out through series of adventures the location that R'lyeh will pop up > sail to location > stop cultists/final battle

One problem, might have to use something other than the Deep Ones hybrid offspring since there are no models for them in the game editor. Might have to fake it if there is something reasonably close.

Sounds alright to me; Deep Ones just kinda popped up first, ya know? It could be Human/Metahuman cultists or ghouls or whatever that could be influenced by the Old Ones. Big Q isn't the only one; I mean, Old Nyarly or Shubby could be trying as well. And we both know the Crawling Chaos love to ♥♥♥♥ around with us puny mortals in his spare time.

True. Yog Sothoth might be a better main antagonist since he's the key to letting all of the nastiness in. He IS the doorway between spaces. In the Dunwich Horror Wilbur Whately tried to steal the latin translation of the Necronomicon from Miskatonic for the exact purpose of finding a ritual to invoke Yog Sothoth and let all the outer nasties in.
