Editing and adding custom lots sizes (Tutorial, not a question)
(I didn't know if this kind of subject should go either to the main area, or the modding subpart ^-^')

Before any edit, do a backup of any file you will edit.

For anyone who was wondering, it's pretty easy to edit max buildings sizes, or even create new ones.

Find the file

Just go to the game's installation folder > Game_Data > StreamingAssets and open the Settings file (use Notepad++, it's the most clear way to edit it).

Go around line 106, and you'll find a boards category, where you can edit the four main boards, and even create new ones (in fact, there is already a Enormous size which is not activated).

Edit the existing sizes

If you just want to edit the main lots sizes, you just need to edit them like that.

{ locname "board.xl" locdesc "board.xl.desc" def { board { left -100 right 100 top 85 bottom -25 } lot { left -75 right 75 top 40 bottom -20 floorspacecap 6000 } caps { floorspacemax 15000 plazaupgradetiles 2 } } }

In this example, this is the settings for the Extra Large size.

Explanation of each of the settings

The board part is the size of the background, AKA how far your camera can go. This is not the building part. His ideal size (for my own taste) is 25 tiles in each side of the buildable area and 5 extra floors on the top and bottom.
As you see, there is a left and right settings, which set the board size for each side, from the middle of the background to eack side. In this settings, the board is 100+100 = 200 tiles wide.

The lot part is the size of the background, AKA where you can build.
The left and right settings works like the board part. Be sure that these 2 settings are equal. It will works otherwise, but the building overlay will be misplaced.
The top and bottom settings are pretty evident. Be careful as the bottom setting is the base max size of the buildings, before the consultant upgrade. This upgrade will multiply this size by 2.
The floorspacecap setting is also the base max tile surface of the building, before the consultant upgrade.

Finally, the caps part contain 2 settings : the floorspacemax which is the maximum surface after the upgrade, and the plazaupgradetiles which is the amount of plaza tiles required for the Zoning changes upgrade.

Create a custom size

In order to create a custom lot size, add a new part to the code, with custom settings, including the locname and locdesc settings. These settings will allow the game to find the name and description of your custom lot size.

Let's take this example.

{ locname "board.underground" locdesc "board.undergorund.desc" def { board { left -100 right 110 top 20 bottom -50 } lot { left -75 right 85 top 15 bottom -45 floorspacecap 25000 } caps { floorspacemax 40000 plazaupgradetiles 2 } } } }
In order to have a custom name appear in the game, we need to edit another file, located in the installation folder > Game_Data > StreamingAssets > loc. Open the rar file corresponding to your language and then open the txt file.

If you are editing the english file, add 2 new lines, one with your locname and one with your locdesc. For each, add your custom text and a max letters setting for the locname.
This should look like this :
board.underground Underground 19 board.undergorund.desc "Start on an underground lot, why not ?" 19
Use the tab key for the spaces between each of the 3 parts.

If you are editing another file, do the same without the max letters setting. There is a Text English, but it is not required.

Save your file (and repack it if you extract it) and your custom size is ready to go.

The text is worlking in the menu.[www.hostingpics.net]
The building has 45 basement floors, and a base max surface of 25.000 tiles.[www.hostingpics.net]

(Yeah, I play the game in french, but the result is the same)

You should post this in the Guides area so that people will be easily able to find it! :-)

I intend to do so, but I wanted some feedback before putting a "V1.0 guide".

(Yeah. Early Access, now in your forum !)

Your English is better than mine and I’m English!, so you've done great!
I do like the detailed explanation, it'll be great for those that want to understand why they are doing something, which allows them to learn and then think independently on creating their own lot sizes.

So I've had a quick think and here are some suggestions as you've requested :) As i'd love this on the Guides section!

More pictures
- a picture is a thousand words, but also some of use learn differently to others, so really having a visual after each example would be a good way for visual learners to grasp what each part's about. I'd even go as far as showing this is a screen;

Be sure that these 2 settings are equal. It will works otherwise, but the building overlay will be misplaced.

a few more sample scripts
- so you've got the underground sample script, which is awesome anyone thinking Fallout: Lass Vegas? or Fallout Shelter. However I honestly think you might get more hits if you tailor to the lazy. Adding a couple more oversized scripts that people can quickly grab to increase their lot size will get people talking about your guide more as it's suddenly the easiest thing in the world to do :)

move the warning
- place your Before any edit, do a backup of any file you will edit. right at the top so that people are aware early that files will be changed :)

other than that, I think this is the best thing to come from the community. the game can of course do more but we're limited by the baseline hardware that people have, I suppose informing people that they may need a little better than recommended specs would be a safe way to go also.

Thank you so much for sharing this, it's made my day :acbutterfly:

Thanks for the great feedback, I'll try to add a few pics.

(Fallout, prrrt, no... A bit... Maybe... Well, a lot...
Actually, I was thinking of either this, or an underground city like the one in Demolition Man or Total Recall).

Excellent info and well written, one little bit didn't make sense to me: The description of the top and bottom value seems wrong to me. Isn't it the top value that is doubled when getting the max height upgrade?

It is, my phrase is badly wrote :steammocking:

Can you release this as an guide? So we can put it to our favorites :).
Thanks a lot! :8bitheart:

I intended to release it as a guide, but since someone already made a similar guide, I hesitate to do so, even if he says himself that mine "has a couple of things [he] didn't know.".

I think you infos are more informative then the other one^^ I think?

Maybe I'll add it in the future, if I improve it further with other modifications.

Love the guide - wish there were some larger lot size examples. Are there any hard maxes as far as floorspace? What is the absolute largest I can go? Thanks!

I don't know for sure what the hard maxes are. I thought first thait it might be 255, but even 500 for each parameters works.
So, I guess you can go wild, just think about backing up your files before :steammocking:
And, as it's always a good thing to say it when it comes to modding : You are modding at your own risk, and problem can occur. Think about backing up your files before each edits.
And as an idea, here what a lot looks like with 500 on every parameters, so 500 floors over and under, 1000 tiles wide. Even with this amount, it add up to a max of 1.000.000 tiles max, enough to fit 250.000 offices. Good luck to create a perfect arcology in that =).

Actually, that could be a fun challenge : Build a humongous building on this lot with one constaint, you can only build the next floor once you have built the 1.000 tiles of the one before.
