This is not only the best out of SteamVR, But I love it so much! It's pretty cool how a developer managed to make something like this, It's super cool!
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 23. sep. 2024 kl. 0:57
I could never get it working, the tracing functions are too limited.
Woodwo 22. sep. 2024 kl. 22:35
will be good if you fix the item collisions so they dong collide with the player
Woodwo 22. sep. 2024 kl. 22:35

Rainer Pinkler 22. jan. 2023 kl. 1:48
Holy **** this is great
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 1. jan. 2023 kl. 7:26
Subscribe to it. Then open the SteamVR Home menu (usually B or Y button) and select the map from the Environments screen.
Cloudy 1. jan. 2023 kl. 6:56
how do i use this?
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 22. okt. 2022 kl. 11:47
I've been asking Valve to be able to do it for years.
SENPAI!! 22. okt. 2022 kl. 10:41
Why can't i spawn all these tools in other worlds! it sucks! damn
Steven TheOnly 11. aug. 2022 kl. 14:20
Is it possible to obtain the workshop content file for this? I deleted mine by mistake and now subscribing wont solve the problem for it doesn't seem to re-download the file.
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 8. jan. 2022 kl. 0:02
Yeah, there is also a link for a repository with most of the files and instructions on how to get the rest, if they don't want to use an asset pack like in the guide.

There are a few environments that use the spawn menu from this to let you spawn the locomotion tool, but I don't think many authors even know it exists.

Thanks!
Michael 7. jan. 2022 kl. 20:00
On a related note, I only now saw the guide you posted. Ugh! This only reinforces the fact that authors seriously need to know about this! lol

Thank you again for all your work!
Michael 7. jan. 2022 kl. 19:57
Hi Rectus,

This is something that I've been wondering for quite awhile now.

As far as I'm aware, you seem to be the ONLY environment author who has unlocked the mysteries of true locomotion! (Why Valve never made this a default option or added it in an update is baffling beyond relief to this day, especially since you've clearly demonstrated that it's possible - YEARS AGO.)

That being said, would you be willing to upload your locomotion tool here to the Workshop as a standalone download (or as a link to a repository and/or instructions) for people to add locomotion to their own projects?

I'm not an environment author myself (or a coder, or a modder of any kind), but I feel like everyone who makes environments for SVRH seriously needs to know about this gadget you made, and how/why it works - especially since to this day, Valve refuses to add simple movement as an option themselves. Just my two cents.

Your thoughts?
Raxior 2. okt. 2021 kl. 21:37
this is the best thing you should make a cityscape next so we can swing around like spider man
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 28. mar. 2021 kl. 7:56
It should be on one of the A/B/X/Y buttons. If none of them work, check your bindings in SteamVR.
Kimi RÄIKKÖNEN 28. mar. 2021 kl. 7:55
im on the Rift S, when i press the left home button it brings up the steamvr thing i press menu but the only options are steam, exit steamvr
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 28. mar. 2021 kl. 7:52
It's not on the wall, it's on a menu you open by pressing a button on the controller.
Kimi RÄIKKÖNEN 28. mar. 2021 kl. 7:45

Rectus  [ophavsmand] 23. mar. 2021 kl. 6:05
Open the SteamVR Home menu (usually on one of the face buttons on the controller), and click on Environments.
Mannytko 23. mar. 2021 kl. 5:43

Rectus  [ophavsmand] 11. aug. 2020 kl. 0:31
A working portal gun isn't possible. What kind of pack do you mean?
CakeHead G 10. aug. 2020 kl. 12:19
Pls add a Portal Gun from portal and make a pack that has all of these in a pack
Octa Bahjan 24. juni 2020 kl. 11:10
well on my htc vive it doesn't display the red dot so something broke or my pc is doing bad stuff
i'll be honest, my pc is kinda sketchy tho lol
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 24. juni 2020 kl. 9:43
It's not very good, but it should display on the eye closest to it. Unless something broke.
Octa Bahjan 24. juni 2020 kl. 9:01
the mare's leg sight seems to not display on either eye,
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 9. maj 2020 kl. 0:49
Thanks for reporting it. Does it happen regularly, and what items cause it? I use the index and have only had it happen once or twice, so I haven't been able to pinpoint a cause.
Adil3tr 9. apr. 2020 kl. 7:11
There's a discord for Alyx modding with a lot of stuff already out if you haven't seen it: https://discord.gg/aEhf45
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 2. apr. 2020 kl. 5:30
Maybe if there ends up being something unclear about it then.
Adil3tr 2. apr. 2020 kl. 5:24
That is frustrating. After it launches, do you think you could explain this briefly on reddit so people understand? Modding support, Hammer, all of it is pretty hard for most people to get a sense of.
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 2. apr. 2020 kl. 5:14
Yeah, I can't tell for 100% yet without the official tools and docs, but the scriptable tool props are a feature exclusive to SteamVR Home, and dumping the VScript API functions shows there isn't anything new I could use instead.
Adil3tr 2. apr. 2020 kl. 3:23
Do we know about that yet? I thought hammer wasn't out yet for it.
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 2. apr. 2020 kl. 3:13
Yeah, it's great. Too bad the scripting system for it is missing the parts required to make a barnacle grapple.
Adil3tr 1. apr. 2020 kl. 17:07
Are you liking Alyx? I kept hoping I could grab a barnacle to use as a weapon.
Damp Bees 22. mar. 2020 kl. 7:07
Thank you! :steamhappy:
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 22. mar. 2020 kl. 1:42
Thanks!

This list in the wiki should be comprehensive for native functions, unless Valve has added any new functions that I haven't noticed.
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamVR/Environments/Scripting/API

There are a few utilty scripts, like a class system, that aren't documented. You can open up the vpk files from steamvr_environments\game\core\ with something like GCFScape to look at those.

Map scripts also get access to a few more functions and callbacks.

Damp Bees 21. mar. 2020 kl. 21:32
Looking over all of this in the github is just so impressive. Very, Very, impressive.
I am about to graduate with an associates in programming and am really trying to learn more.
I have been reading on the valve steamVR wiki and am finding it difficult to truely understand what functions are available to me for lua vscipts. I have been unable to find a similar site like the gmod wiki to get a comprehensive list of available functions. Does such a place like this exist or should I just be looking for the dota2 source 2 similar site?
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 6. mar. 2020 kl. 13:54
Also, update released!

Highlights include a new much improved gravity gun, spawnpoint relocator, item spawning access controls and more locomotion options.
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 6. mar. 2020 kl. 13:54
Depends a lot on what kinds of things you mean. Aside from art assets (which Valve has demonstrated is possible), I don't think it's possible to really port stuff like interacion or game mechanics without code access. This map is pretty much as far as its possible to go with Home, and valve would have to do significant updates to the mess Home currently is to make anything more advanced possible.
Adil3tr 6. mar. 2020 kl. 13:47
So what do you think the potential could be to backport some things from Alyx to SteamVR Home, since Alyx is singleplayer and we have no indication its Hammer support won't be as well. You seem like the most qualified Source 2/VR modder so you're expert #1 on this.
Rectus  [ophavsmand] 4. mar. 2020 kl. 7:29
Nope, I just do this for fun.

There isn't really much content to mod, and it's way easier to make a full game with Unity or UE4, so I don't think there is much incentive for most people to make any interactive stuff for Home. Valve also hasn't really advertised the tools much, and VR is still a very niche market.
Adil3tr 4. mar. 2020 kl. 6:41
Are you affiliated with Valve? Do you know why no one has made anything this ambitious?
