I think you are right and the problem must be on my end since the crash report windows says: "Crash Source: mscorlib. Mods apparently were not resposible of this crash.

It is a stand alone mod, but I have also included the individual .hat files in it, so I believe it should work with Hat File Mania (at least if I have done it correctly), but every time I try to load a .hat file via Hat File Mania the games crashes.
HatMania Packages are just empty mods with .hat files.
Hat File Mania will detect HatMania Packages and allow you to copy them to your DuckGame.exe folder, which means that they will load as long as that file exists.
A future update to Hat File Mania will enable saving any hat to your DuckGame.exe folder so that you can play it regardless of mods.
Shouldn't this load stuff from the workshop?
If you ever need to switch this mod off, you can just copy the .hat files from the workshop folders, I'll implement an in-game GUI for this soon
