I'm so used to thinking Portal instead of thinking Doom that I kept running up to doors, standing there, and wondering why they didn't open! :-)

Did you recreate all the secret rooms from Doom E1M1? I found a couple, but I could have sworn there was something where you push a button on each of two pillars, and something else triggered by a TV monitor. (I'm probably splicing together memories from Doom, Doom II, and Quake here!)

Anyway, thanks for the cool level. Thumbs up!

OMG, I know I am dating myself, but DOOM was wonderful I got addicted to it. Every time I saw a garbage can, my brain said BLAST IT. And every time I saw an exit sign I mentally clicked on it. Thanks for the memory!

Playing this map doesn't really feel like Portal to me. It's kinda tricky to figure out exactly which surfaces are portalable and which aren't. However I have a gripe much, much larger than that: WHY CAN'T I TURN OFF THE MUSIC WITHOUT TURNING OFF THE REST OF THE GAME SOUNDS??!!??

with quickplay, if your not already established as a good map maker,

Turrets can't kill other turrets unfortunately, so some of the old Doom strategies won't work. :-)

The last secret room in this level is very hard, I never found it in the original Doom game. It's in the zigzag toxic slime room. You can watch the videos above if you can't find it.

great map
as they are all the same enermy, I can't get away with, going in a room, running around in circles, leaving & waiting for all but 1 enermy to be killed .
then finishing it off.
1 secret room missed
1 turret missed, but went back & killed it.
score updated-(good touch)
got 2 cubes & 1 safety sphere.
when are you doing doom 3 ?
ps they are re-releasing doom 3 with some extra content.
longest game I ever played.
I did all difficulty levels, nightmare level was save, save, save.
was favotite game.

Thanks a lot. I really liked the map and I'm enjoying the other maps you made as well. A timer would be great but its not very hard to add a timer to the video so either way. I like the delay you added though because it gives you a second to look at the secrets/kills screen... I did complete the map with all kills and all secrets as well :)

The second level has some gel puzzles at the end, and requires more planning and thinking to get past turrets. Anyway, I'm making a coop version of this map now, since the original doom invented it.
Did you paly the original DooM game? Or are you too young?

Yeah, sorry about that. Level 2 has a difficulty setting at the start where you can choose the difficulty, but it was a lot of work to add that, so I haven't done it for level 1 yet.

The easier way to play this level is to portal out the window at the start, get the Companion Cube by Flinging, then go through the tunnel or portal in the window onto the ceiling or wall above the raised platform in the zig-zag slime room where the two defective turrets are. Push them off, then portal down behind all the turrets. Put the companion cube down in front of the door as a shield to hide behind, then open the door, and put portals under all the turrets in the final room, then go out the exit.

Don't forget.. the cubes replace armour, so use them like armour. You can duck behind them and not get killed.

This is from the free shareware episode 1. The game code is open source. So there shouldn't be any problem. There's nothing in the steam workshop agreement about it. I could add a link to buying Doom on steam, if people are really worried about that.

Is it legal to make a map like this? I know that DOOM is under the GPL license, but is it really allowed to release something like that for the steam workshop?
What would happen if it isn't allowed, would valve only delete the map or banning the account?

I updated my doom e1m2 map! Now you can choose your difficulty level! Everything from Can I Play Daddy up to Nightmare (with respawning turrets). So there is something to suit every kind of player, from the casual, to the puzzle-solver, to the turret fighter, to the hard-core ninja. If you didn't like it before, try it again now!

Almost finished Wolfenstein. And the best part is, my program can mostly convert Wolfenstein levels automatically. So I just converted a random level that I didn't remember, and played it myself, not knowing where the secrets or enemies were. :-)

I personally think that if you're adding some puzzles in the map, you definitely need to include gels. :>

For Wolfenstein, I'm trying to do the wells and the water on the floor, and deciding whether to include gels or not. I still need to do the exit elevator, the kill and secret counts, the sides of doors, the cubes, and the music. The lighting might need some work too. I made a program to automate most of the conversion, so I can just pass it an original Wolfenstein 3D level and it will convert it to a portal 2 map, with just a few things to edit manually. So once I get the first one done, I could make any other Wolfenstein map quickly (or Blake Stone, Catacombs 3D, Corridor 7, Operation Body Count, or Noah's Ark).

I'm working on making Wolfenstein 3D, but it might take a while. I've also got some other ideas.
