yes, if you select X in the top left box under smeltable Items and the bottem left drop-down selection says 'any Y', then the entry will actually smelt Y and not X.

with entry name do you mean just for example anvil (top left)and with componenets do you mean like copper anvil (bottem left)

I've just fixed the problem.
It should work now - at least in v1.0 rc8.
