I normally make sure the starting tile is comfortable to build in, since there are many players that don't use the 25 tiles unlocked mod. So, because of that the starting tile will always have enough flat space, flowing water and at least one highway and one railway. Another thing I do is that I want each tile have a special reason to be purchased, it could be something like a scenic hill, farmland, a polder, resources or a large river delta. The game is at it's best when you get to plan the city.
Thanks for your suggestions! I'm going to upload my next map Great Flutland in a moment.

Also, I've learned that those maps that took great care in placing realistic and smooth highways and rail lines all end up with much higher quality. There's nothing worse than starting a map with a highway with 45 degree angle overpasses, sharp corners, and absurd heights. None of your maps have made this mistake as far as I've seen, but I think it's worth reinforcing this standard.
Please please make more maps like this (in non-Euro themes).
If you are very careful and pick the right tiles, you can get all but a sliver of the island in between the rivers AND the island with the beach on the coast in the 9 tile limit!
Thus this is a very nice region if you build it out.
The rivers are handy two. Because they form a "h" shape, you can successfully dam the smaller tributary that joins the two big ones and it will not overflow, but change direction since the bigger river can handle the excess without rising much and the water will come out of the other end. If you do two dams you can drain it.. This way you can dump your sewage into something that will go out to sea without it backing up. Just be carefu, there is a longshore current that will push onto the beach if you care about aesthetics.
So thanks for making a really good map.
PS- glad it is NOT european version. I hate euro buildings. Can you make more non euro maps?
Appreciate it :)
