In times in Half Life 2, in Black Mesa East, as Citizens can be seen walking around, as you arent going to be close to eachother, they have really smooshed faces and less detail for FPS's sake.

is this for the command r_lod 5? because r_lod 5 does the same thing... exept it requires sv_cheats. Maybe this is so the command doesn't require sv_cheats?

These are LOD models for the default HL2 citizens. These are intended to be used with a script that won't be published publicly. These are to improve FPS at large distance model loading.

this explains it. its meant to improve FPS. not meant to give nightmares.
