Something like that, I would play with light kits off individual bones. Because they spawn many lights, I turn their shadows off and rely on the usual 3 lights I use for shadows. Give that a try, you can always delete them if they don't pan out.

I'm not that good in SFM also. I only have 100 hours in it and I took a long break from it.
