The mod first tries to load any dds file that was found. If that succeded, nice, nothing to do. But if the loading failed, then the mod will look for if there is a file with the same name but the extension ".png". If it exists, then the png is loaded.
A dds file has a layout that can be easier interpreted by graphics engines. When you load a png, it has to go through a few setup steps (e.g. mip mapping, streaming compression) which takes time. If you don't care about the start up time, then there is no need to convert to dds.
Have a look at RimSort. RimPy is not developed anymore, and RimSort has more features.
Tell me if im wrong but if u pair this with rimpy, and convert textures, it will convert them to png incase the mod hasnt added them?
