Bag is the earliest item in the game that expands your inventory space. Small Backpack, you unlock later in the tech tree. We dont remember exactly where it is in the tree, but its one of the nodes in Tier 2, iirc. Unless they moved it. ^-^.

Am I missing something? I am very new to this game, but I can't find any "small backpack" or any "backpack" for that matter. I only have an Item named "bag" but this doesn't seem to be affected by this mod. How do I get to the "small backpack"?

Youll want to empty your backpacks of all items first, but otherwise, yes. you can safely remove any of our mods, except those that explicitly state their affects will linger.
