Thank you for taking the time to read all my comments! I get very long-winded on topics I’m passionate about, but I’m glad you took the time to indulge me. Good luck in all your future endeavors!

Thank you very much for your comment(s)!
I'll note your feedback to look into sometime in the future.

To partially explain the lack of accuracy to how Niko moves in his own game in some cases, due to this being the first 2D Playable I partially focused more on keeping things simple so that others could use the mod files more easily to create their own 2D Playables.

Might setup a separate template 2D Playable mod for others to use instead to allow more specific things with Niko, but for the time being maintaining one mod and looking out for any major bugs makes things easier.

Also FrogVibes devs have seen the mod, I shared this on their official Discord server.

Only 22 minutes later, and here I am to fix 2 things *I* messed up.

The first is that this mod IS recognized by Gears for Breakfast, as it is in the featured page when looking at mods.

The second is that I forgot to mention something, although it is positive unlike all the nit-picky stuff from the previous comments I made. It's nice how all the various effects from the game, like being burned, frozen with the ice hat, and even something as specific as being cursed in Vanessa's curse apply properly to Niko, as if the game was designed for 2D images.

At the end of the day, these are both minor animation nitpicks, and probably very few people know either of these issues, especially the second one, since it would require not having the no-bonk badge on, actually bonking, and having played Here comes Niko! long enough to know the animation isn't accurate to the game. I just thought that I'd mention them to satisfy the nerds like me who know that these details are wrong. The mod is still great, and I'm glad you go out of your way to not only have made it, but continue to update it. Thanks for reading this really long ramble, and have a great day! :3

Also, sorry for the gazillion comments. My rant was too long for Steam so I had to cut it up like this.

The second one is much more simple. When wall bonking, the picture shown is a dizzy Niko in the air. While it makes sense for the context, in Here comes Niko!, a different picture is shown of Niko bouncing up in the air a little bit, since that's what happens in that game. I agree that it doesn't make sense for this game, as when you bonk, you fall down instead of going up a little bit, but I think there is also value in making the animations as accurate to Here comes Niko! as possible. So, if it is possible, could you add an option on what animation to play in the configure settings? I don't know if choosing what animation to play during the same interaction is something that is possible, but it sounds like something worth investigating.
Nabbit Gamer 15. juli kl. 20:19
And if it isn't possible, can you at least make it so it does not play the falling animation when landing, but instead just goes straight to the default standing animation? It already does this for the walking animation if you are walking, so it should be possible for the default standing animation. This isn't only because it's more accurate to Here comes Niko!, but also because the sound effect of landing plays immediately upon landing, meanwhile, the falling animation is still playing, which has Niko's feet still in the air. So a Niko makes a landing sound effect when their feet are in the air. This is the part that by far bugs me the most.
Nabbit Gamer 15. juli kl. 20:18
That being said, there are two tiny animation flaws I noticed almost immediately which has bugged me ever since.

The first is when landing on the ground after jumping. It plays Niko's falling animation, when, in Here comes Niko!, that same animation plays after jumping, and the last frame of the animation is shown when falling without jumping. IDK if you can get that specific in AHIT's code to be able to program it so the animation plays while jumping and only the last frame when falling, but the idea of the falling animation playing partway through the jumping animation sounds like it would possible, especially if you just combine the jumping and falling animations into one longer animation that can get interrupted by landing or other animations that might interrupt a jump.
I feel stupid for talking about this because of how much detail already went into this mod, surely this has been thought of and just isn't possible, but I thought I'd ask about it anyway.

I really love this mod and am surprised that it hasn't been seen by or recognized by Gears for Breakfast and/or frogVibes. I mean, with the really good description, that, if you pulled out the part that said it was unofficial and showed it to a random person, they probably would mistake it for official content. There are almost no flaws, (The main one being that it doesn't really work super well with the other 3D objects in the game, but that's to be expected, and is understandable, and actually looks better than what I had first thought was possible.) and the mod still gets updates, which is actually crazy. And the animations or pictures of Niko are pretty much always perfectly matched for the situation, it's really nice.

Very talented of you to make 2D work so well in a 3D environment. Not familiar with the Niko game but I’ll just assume he has an annoying cousin that likes to invite him out for bowling and a bad habit for getting involved with the mafia.

Your mod is truly groundbreaking. Thank you.
Aimless McGee 27. dec. 2024 kl. 9:37
Perfectly understandable! I'm fairly certain I can figure it out on my own, then, so thank you for responding!

The "FAQ & NOTES" post covers the basic stuff, generally anything beyond that I don't have any instructions for, sorry.
Starts to require knowledge of coding, and teaching that is beyond the scope of this mod.

Hi, I adore this mod and most likely will be using it plenty.

do you have any instructions on adding sprites or animations to the ones the mod is packaged with? I was hoping I could do hat and flair textures and expressions, but I'm not seeing those included in the prepackaged textures. Many thanks in advance!

it appears the physical player select mod that appears on the ship works too so don't have to use the one required.

I love this mod I really wish I knew how to make playable characters because I seriously wish someone would make Anya a playable character from the anime Spy x Family. I'd be so grateful if someone did.

This is really impressive to see!

The intro cutscenes are hilarious with this model considering they're 2D. XD

Also, even funnier is having the Moon Jumper Badge Seller mod just so the character isn't lonely in being the only 2D character in the game. :P

Thanks for your feedback!
I can try looking into making it more subtle, since this is the only 2D Playable mod I am trying to keep it as a simple as possible template for others to work from.
Firey Icy 18. okt. 2024 kl. 12:02
Very aware that this is a nitpick on an otherwise amazing mod, but could be there be a config to adjust Niko's little 'bouncing' while walking/running? I ask this because the game Niko comes from either doesn't have it, or it's much more subtle with it.
Still, very good mod with the first 2D playable on the workshop and hope to see some other potential 2d playables.
