how do i attach the suppressor?

@Vanyor - I had the character creep up a bit and fire, so the point where they are standing is where the zeds took notice. Be aware this was on Survivor mode where zed hearing is set to standard. On Apocalyse aed hearing is randomized, so some zeds will hear from further away, and some won't hear until even closer than this point.

But yeah, standing behind the red line, the zeds will not hear the shot with a retail suppressor. They may still shamble about, and appear to move towards the player as part of their standard AI, but it's not due to hearing the gunshot. Zeds has a specific animation when they hear gunshots.

The green line is the distance required for the makeshift suppressor, which has a further sound carry due to it's makeshift nature. And yeah, firing a weapon without a suppressor attached carries a long way. Maybe not so far as Louisvill e to Rosewall , but certainly from a few blocks away XD

Hey, thanks for the mod. I'm just curious... So according to the image if the player was behind the red/ green lines the zombies would not hear it right? So in vanilla that means if I shoot a gun, I might as well wear a bright neon pink clothes while listening to the radio on max volume and scream while shooting? Damn, I won't be using guns ever again. A zombie will come from Louisville to Rosewood.

@Monkey Magic I play sandbox and use randomized everything, so doesn't bother me none. Ty though! Better than full sound lol

@Zara - Bare in mind that the Indie Stone have changes how zeds work, so in Apocalypse mod results may vary due them them having randomized hearing. But yeah, the mod has been on-and-off working throughout B42 due to certain updates breaking it time and again.

GASP! Is this working with the recent versions of B42?? I used this in B41 but for a while it wasnt working with B42 when it was released so I disabled this mod. OMG!! Im so excited to be able to use it again!! :auyay: :redsporeling: :steamdance: :steamhearteyes:

@polmoliner94 - Welp, there's also the sound carry to think about. If you check the picture I recently added above, you'll notice the difference between the retail, and makeshift suppressor. Given that the retail version is approximately the distance on-screen, and the makeshift one is approximately the distance on screen while dragging the view as far as allowed, there's no really room for one that's worse than the makeshift one.

I mean, sure - technically I could make one that's the same distance again (coz without a suppressor zeds will hear a gunshot from miles away) there would be no way to show on screen exactly how far that sound carries.

Incidentally, I'm not sure where you are getting the lvl 5 Metalwork from, the recipe for the Makeshift Suppressor should only require the one level. It's just cutting a pipe in half, and sanding down the edges after all XD

I guess you're right. I mean at the end the objective of the mod is keep it simple, so it works perfectly fine like this. Having to farm lvl 5 metalworking is not that a big deal in the long run. But maybe adding just 1 more option to craft would be nice. And from all the random ideas i gave, I think the can makeshift supressor could be a cheap alternative, with half durability half supressing capabilities or something like that. Anyway I would be using this mod because is the only one that grants what i want, only supressors. So ty for the feedback, and for the good work!

@polmoliner94 - My M3 Sub Machine Gun was not added to Simple Silencers mod. I made a patch mod for it, coz - well I made that mod, and I like the weapon D: Foldable Survival Rifle later got one too coz that firearm seemed interesting, and I wanted to see how the folding mechanic would bear up. Spoiler: it didn't. The mod author fixed it on their end

These two were mutually exclusive, so I made Modded Firearms to include both. This opened the possibility for more modded firearms, so long as they do not break vanilla mechanics. Patch mods assure those (like yourself) who only want vanilla firearms don't have to worry about needless updates.

As for expanding on the main mod: I previously considered other options, but that led to a rabbit hole of nonsense like accuracy, impact, durability, and so on that made it not worth the effort - especially given the makeshift suppressor is easy to craft (once you find one in the field, or the recipe)

I don't understand why ppl ask for compatibility with other mods, when these mods had already silencers. This mod is called SIMPLE silencers because is the only one that only adds silencers without unnecessary attachments, useless bullets, and firearms the same or worst than the ones existing. That's why this mod exist for people who only wants the current vanilla firearms to be silenced and made it more viable, works absolutely fine, and I like it more now than before when u had the M3. I think the mod works fine the way it is. But if you want to add something, it would be more silencers variabilty, instead of thinking of adding custom firearms. Cuz at the end the mod is about silencers. Exemple, wooden silencer made by carving, plastic bottle silencer with mantenience, military silencer super rare, improvised can silencer, improvised pipe silencer. Anyway the mod works perfectly fine rn and it does what it has to do perfectly fine. So thank you very mucho

@Robert "MrBritches" Freeman - Fix what exactly? The mod is working fine in the current version. If you are having an issue, it is probably down to another mod you have installed causing a conflict.

@Joseroth - As is mentioned in the description, and has been mentioned multiple times in the comments, this mod is for vanilla firearms . By itself it will only work for vanilla (semi)automatic weapons.

There is a patch mod that adds come modded firearms, you can post suggestions there, and if they are viable they can be added. Not all modded firearms are suitable, as some change the way vanilla firearms work, and some have custom attachments etc.

As for "firearms mod" - assuming you are referring to Hyzo's mod, it states in that mods description that it is not compatible with other firearms mods. It's also broken for B42 IIRC

@Casastrophist - The mod is designed for use with automatic handguns and rifles, the intent being a little buff to otherwise under-used firearms. While shotguns, and revolvers can be added manually by the user, it was never the intended purpose, given they were already the better options in vanilla.

Revolvers are quiet, and accurate while shotguns are multi-target death blasters. In contrast, automatics are much louder, and suffer from jamming, slow-loading and other issues, making them the inferior choice in vanilla.

This mod not being designed for shotguns, there is bound to be some display issues.

@Golden Dragon - I will look into it on both counts,but updating PZ mods is not my priority right now coz they Devs keep breaking them every time they update.

@SDgamer and @javierdk2324 - Same as I said to SupEr ^-^ - This mod only works with vanilla firearms. The Modded Firearm Patch is available in my workshop, which adds several modified firearm models.

I think you can add "Research" into meny, to research crafting makeshift if you found industrial one. Like on new weapons and armor in Z updates.

If this mod was"just for aesthetics" the group of zeds that were just across the road would have beelined for the character on the first shot she fired. They did not, because this mod suppresses the sound. The retail suppressor sound carries a short distance, with the makeshift one, it carries further, and without one it carries for blocks.

Since you claim to have watched the video, you should already know this, coz I stated as much in the video, and even demonstrated this ==

Is this mod just for aesthetics or does it also have a function? Because from the video it seems that zombies are attracted to the sound of gunfire anyway, that shouldn't happen... What kind of silencer is it if it doesn't silence, what is the range of the silencer? At what distance can zombies hear you compared to a weapon without a silencer.

@妖孽 - Read the change notes. I stated that I left the old sounds in, if people prefer those and wanna swap them back locally. TBH, I kinda like the echo. Stands to reason in world where your char is the only living soul.

I strongly recommend switching back to the previous muffler sound effect, as the echo is too noticeable now, like shooting in a gun training room.

@Icetea - Read the descriptions on the mods you are using. Rain's Firearms & Gun Parts states in large blue letters that their mod is not compatible with other gun, or attachemnts mods D:

AltenRoguerz - Likewise. This mod states that it's made for vanilla firearms . VFE is a firearms and attachment mod, it will not be compatible.

I have made a couple companion mods that add a few other modded firearms, but these are either a single, or a few firearms only. You can search them in my workshop.

You could have a rare drop silencer that does the Bondish sound, and be a little cheeky and have the game play the bond sting whenever you get a one shot kill with it or something lol.
Maybe a little silly for zomboid perhaps.

@Wiking - I've been thinking about it TBH, and while I have a decent sound clip for retail silencers, but iunno where I'm supposed to get a sound for a "makeshift" silencer XD. I'll have a play around with it in Audacity of something later and see what I come up with.

EDIT - Sounds have been updated. The old ones are still available in the sound folder. Feedback appreciated. Also, free to buy my a cuppa :P

Anyway you could improve this mod with new and better sounds. As it is now it's pretty horrible and unimmersive to be honest. As the only silencer mod to work with b42 you are our only hope.

@gayonne - You were probably just unlucky, or maybe visited the areas you search prior to installing the mod. The distribution only works for zones you have not visited. In general, one is more likely to find a retail suppressor, but one can find makeshift ones in a few locations. Since you found the recipe, they are simple enough to craft though.

@volvofh540turbocompresordieselv8 - there's a spoiler somewhere in the chat for likely recipe spawn locations. As for the items, they spawn where you would expect to encounter them. PLaces such as police stations, army bases, army surplus stores and so on.

Does this mod only generate factory-made suppressors for new games? I installed this mod mid-way through an existing save, found the recipe for the makeshift suppressor, but went to 2-3 gun-containing locations (military surplus store, police station, etc.) which I have not previously discovered and there is ZERO suppressor to be found among the weapon attachments. Loot settings are as per default apocalypse settings. Was I being terribly unlucky, or does the mod's loot distribution work mid-game?
