Some more less relevant trivia: There has been work on using shark skin textures for high performance swimsuits and boat hulls.  Despite research being on the favorable side of margin of error, the swimsuits were banned from the Olympics the year after they premiered.   However, for boat hulls it has the added advantage of being more barnacle, algae, scaling.
