To be fair even if the combat shotgun and it's rifle cousin are extremely cursed and out of proportion I still like the aesthetic, and considering this is a drastically alternated universe from our own, standards for weapon design such as these could be normal in the Fallout universe.

BrandyBoy is a dumbass purist who hates new ideas and assault rifle really isn't that bad. If it was simply named "machine gun" or something you would have absolutely no issue with it. Stop overreacting.

The combat weapons are neither pipe weapons nor are they handmade. The combat rifle is in .45, not .38, although a .38 receiver does exist for the rifle - it comes in .45 by default. The combat shotgun is also not necessarily in 12 gauge, as the in-game ammo type is only called "Shotgun Shell," which could be any ammunition type.
