Will the wool be able to be updated sometime soon? I'd love to be able to see what colors they've been dyed!

Do they graze only on moss?

Love it! Ranch these on most forts
Currently adding this under [CASTE:MALE] in the mod's raws

All of your mod creatures are truly attractive.
First I only tried a few, but eventually I wanted to use them all. Now I'm creating a new world.

Sweet, that looks to have fixed it. 1.3 has fixed the wool problem, I can now shear my Deep Rothes, spin their wool into yarn thread, then make yarn cloth and make all my usual cloth stuff. Thanks Deon! Best part: I didn't need to make a new fort, the game's "hey did you want to update this mod for this save?" feature worked perfectly for my in-progress fort!

Was bad news for the sheep and alpaca in my fort, though. They were forcibly, uh... retired.

Thanks again, Deon!

In that case it was indeed the standard hair tissue size. It wasn't thick enough to have enough "weight" to be considered a unit, I assume.

I only figured it out by comparing raws, strangely this is not on wiki but it explains a couple of forum posts I've found.

I tested it in 1.2 and then in 1.3 and it now works, thanks. It for sure wasnt working on the old version, even isolated in a save by itself for me. Dont know what was going on. But the "wool" it gave in 1.2 was 0 weight and wouldnt even go in a stockpile with sheep wool, and if it was the only available it would cause job cancellation if you set up Spin Thread due to no hair. Weird stuff. DF modding doesnt always make sense to me... since its fixed now, oh well.

1.3 update:
- Increased thickness of wool layer on Deep Rothe, so now they produce 2x times wool than a sheep.

Proof that it works for me: https://imgur.com/a/BllqAUn

I have a stupid question. Did you try using the "spin thread" in farming workshop before using loom? I tested and it works.

I will still increase the thickness to produce more wool per one creature.

Interesteting, I compared the RAWs, and it is identical to sheep. The only thing missing is relative thickness indicator. I'll try to look into it more now. Maybe because the thickness isn't changed, the wool produces a very small amount.

I can add more to that bug report, the deep rothe shearing action makes a "body part" named deep rothe wool instead of a "hair" named deep rothe wool. I figured this out trying to make a stockpile with all my wools. the deep rothe wool kept getting discarded with the other detritus until i added deep rothe body parts to the stockpile. and it will never spin

Thank you for the report Moosekin, I've added to my calendar this weekend to check why does it happen to them and not sheep.
Moosekin 16. aug. 2024 kl. 0:28
Shearing an adult Deep Rothe only grants 1 wool, which cannot be spun. I've got a Farmer's Workshop with like twenty Deep Rothe wool in it and none of it will be accepted for "spin thread". Alpaca, sheep, and llama wool work fine.

Multumesc, Mihai. I will add it.

As someone returning to dwarf fortress and looking at mods, what is missing from the description is if they are grazers. Don't need exact numbers but a vague idea would be good (light/medium/heavy).
Deon ☣  [ophavsmand] 27. juni 2024 kl. 3:12
Oh, that was me editing creature description without editing raws :). Anyway it's fixed, thank you for the report!

Not that I superwant wool over leather. You just have this in description:
They can also be farmed for wool.

That's why I'm asking)

1.2 update
Deep rothe now can be sheared to get brown-colored wool (no special properties).

If you want to make them grow wool in existing games, replace contents of the folder in /data/installed_mods/3268532451(110) with updated version in /mods/3268532451(120)

That was unfortunately the initial design of the creature Pekyt this was based on. It was bred for leather, not for wool.

I do plan to port a few creatures that have wool that is stronger than sheep.
However I see no problem giving these basic wool if it's something you really want :).
InFeaRn0 26. juni 2024 kl. 10:06
For some reason there is no deep rothe wool can be sheared. Only hide and milk and other butchering products.

Update 1.1: I've added the statue graphic (that I completely didnt consider at first as something needed).

Neat mods. I look forward to trying them when I'm a bit better at DF.
