I use to have my common rooms like that in my Gulag design. Only problem is when you want to run programs that run in the common room. I also found that just leaving the middle blank seems to work just as well. Prisoners will still use the phones you place in there, but it doesnt satisfy their needs very well. Turns out you are better of just dezoning it and using the yard instead

I love the design, didn't even think about what you did with the common room idea and it works rather well!
