My favorite mod in civ 5, very enjoyable domination victories with strong imperial navy. Thank you )

Saw some comments saying the yamato model was bugged and appeared as a warrior. I tested it and the yamato model works like normal for me. IMO much cooler looking than the regular battleship.
Gummans Gubbe 2. jan. 2022 kl. 3:18
Great fun! The extra science from sea tiles was a very interesting experience.

Steam would not auto install the mod, as for many others. I installed manually in the end.

Do NOT update this from v3 to v4. I just did and it breaks the mod and he no longer appears on the list of civs despite having the mod enabled. This is made by JFD who was awful about responding to people about his Mussolini mod being broken, so I don't expect a response to this either. But if for some reason someone is on this page despite having v3 downloaded, do NOT update the mod.

@Author Will you fix problem with Yamato graphics?
Magnus the Rad 20. juli 2018 kl. 13:31
question is this the japan from ww2?
SaltiestMeatBall 11. juli 2018 kl. 18:12
@Author I would even be satisfied if it just looked like a normal battleship for now. Still better than the current.
SaltiestMeatBall 11. juli 2018 kl. 18:10
@Author I can provide a screenshot to the below issue to show you.
SaltiestMeatBall 11. juli 2018 kl. 18:09
@Author Having issues with the unique Unit "Yamato". The model is suppose to be a ship, but the model for the yamato ingame is medieval ground units, kind of like the ones in Rome. Is there any way to fix this? The mod is great, but using it has began much less appealing when the model is just infantry running across water and stabbing ships/cities.
SyrusDrake 15. juni 2018 kl. 15:36
I have the same problem as the previous comment. Yamato's texture is missing and replaced by infantry units.
YellowOctopus[TR] 14. juni 2018 kl. 4:39
There is no Yamato as a texture, Yamato looks like a legioner of rome
T!_0!_M!_A!_Z! 1. juni 2018 kl. 9:25
Currently, this is what happens with the mod:
- No science from killing enemy boats
- No science from conquering coastal cities
- Science from natural border expansion (no buying or conquest)
- No science from buying coastal tiles

What's meant to be happening?

I don't think "puppet ruler" is the correct term, the whole situation was a bit more complicated. From what I understand of the period, I have no reason to believe that the governmental officials used him as a mere tool for their own gain. Rather, the main issue is that you give ultimate authority to some guy who is, for the most part, not allowed to leave his house, and who is as much bound by tradition and the idea of his duty as everyone else. So of course he is mainly influenced by what the people around him think. Meanwhile everyone else believes in whatever he says, because he's a god, clearly he must know.

So the issue I take with calling him a puppet is that there's imo not really a "puppet master" behind it, the entire situation seemed more like a chaotic feedback loop.

That being said, Tojo is probably the best representative because he was the one with an actual public presence.

@Toragg1000 You're only half right. The Emperor of Japan holds a signature spiritual role in Japanese folk religion Shinto. They believe him to be a divine being, decended from the gods. Its part of what drove Japanese zeal in the war. It was fanatical supersition. To the Japanese the royal family are literal gods on earth. Post war this belief has mellowed out some, yet hasn't gone away completely. Several of Japan's most important holidays revolve around their current Emperor, including his birthday. It's creepy imo, but that's the way it is. Its what made the Japanese such an unnerving foe to fight, and why they relied on suicide terror tactics towards the end.

how do you guys update this mod? i subscribed this but to find out it was an old version (science boost when gaining new ocean tiles), and there seems to be no way that i can update this in the game. im using a mac btw.

I was using cultural diversity with this mod, although it said I was authoritarian when I started, the era splashscreens were Japanese and the music orential is there any way to fix this?

Another fascist swine destroyed by glorious Russia!
Morindacil 30. sep. 2016 kl. 21:57
Hirohito was simply a puppet ruler. Just a figurehead used to inspire the masses while the others rule in his stead. The true power in Japan during the WWII was the military. In this case, Tojo.
power meat 21. sep. 2016 kl. 6:37
shouldnt it be Hirohito?

@grit_und_andre.schneider They're most likely referring to the old version of this mod which gave a science boost every time you gained an ocean tile through natural expansion (aka not buying it with gold) or through conquest. I think the way the old version worked was you immediately received the same amount of science you generate each turn for every ocean tile gained naturally (and double that for every tile gained from conquering a city.) It was as hilariously broken as it sounds, to the point where you'd gain late-game techs in 1 or 2 turns and taking over a coastal city was equal to or better than burning a Great Scientist.
CrussWitchHammer 19. apr. 2016 kl. 6:37
you don't earn sience for expanding coast or ocean just for defeating enemy naval units
^^ 15. apr. 2016 kl. 2:48
Well done!
RJtherat 11. apr. 2016 kl. 13:09
it dosen't generate science when i get a new ocean or coast tile. it just goes up naturally. please fix that
Original Bringe 11. apr. 2016 kl. 8:46
The UA seems broken. I don't get any bonus when expanding coast or ocean tiles
AntiDemocracy 3. feb. 2016 kl. 14:37
@ George W. Bush Cause its only a crime if you loose the war.
Stickerbrush 7. jan. 2016 kl. 7:39
@JFD the mod right now is currently broken since you can keep getting the science bonus from getting new ocean tiles (from capturing enemy cities) infinitely. You just have to let the enemy reconquer the city, and then you can conquer it again the next turn and get the science bonus again. There's no way this is intended, right? it's pretty much insta win every game since you can reach tech parity with the AI by the renaissance even on deity. Can you please fix this so you only get the science bonus from acquiring ocean tiles the first time you conquer a city?
Coolbeano 6. jan. 2016 kl. 19:24
10/10 yamatos had 200% damage aganist cities. And I was playing on a small islands map. GAME OVER
derekhan 4. jan. 2016 kl. 1:57
For me, it seems the UA does not work. I bought a coastal tile and saw absolutely no progress on the science (where it says 38/73 in the progress bar). I even waited for the next turn, but it only advanced by the number of points I am naturally generating. Anyone else noticed this ?

Is there a way to manually delete the changes to standard Japan in the mod to make it compatible with other mods that change Japan?
Dristayar88 2. nov. 2015 kl. 9:06
It's supposed to support "Events and Decisions", right?
friend cube #1 25. okt. 2015 kl. 2:11
On a side note: I saw Tojo's performance in the battle royale mk. I and that stopped me from getting his mod at first, but I'm here now
friend cube #1 25. okt. 2015 kl. 2:10
@George W. Bush ikr? being able to commit atrocities for a short-term benefit and damaging your relationship with other civs should be a thing, like being able to sacrifice population for production or razing cities in the mid-late game
Mojave Neon 17. aug. 2015 kl. 22:57
Decided to give the old version one last playthrought before updating to the new one. Wow, it was incredibly fun. Although admittably it was also ridiculously exploitable, as I was able to get the technology to produce yamatos in the early 1600's. Just so much science from conquering cities. Definitely enjoyable, but changing the UA to something not so exploitable was a good idea.
friend robocat 19. juli 2015 kl. 5:04
why no war crimes option for CiV leaders
warp.ligia.obscura 15. juni 2015 kl. 3:59
Does the gain science on acquiring coast/ocean tiles thing work with purchased tiles? Where does the extra science show, in the science per turn or added direct to the current research progress?
Venusaisha 3. juni 2015 kl. 22:23
interesting 8)
NineLives 28. maj 2015 kl. 5:55
Not sure if this has been said before, but there's a ridiculously exploitable way to get (even more than usual) a technology jump over every other civ in the game by "gifting" them a new coastal city surrounded at the border by your troops (tips of peninsulas are the best for this) and then declaring war and immediately conquering it.
Poobis 18. maj 2015 kl. 22:29
@applejaxc Whenever Tojo captures a city his UA counts each tile he from the city he captures as "growing" I guess. so every time he captures a coastal city with a good amount of ocean tiles that's like two free tech depending on how but the city is. I don't know if this is an intended part of his UA or not but man can it get insane when you play him on an archipelago. As soon as you get Yamatos you start one shotting weaker cities and your tech lead goes through the roof.
Pringalnator 13. maj 2015 kl. 17:26
why wont he show up on the list

@JFD are you able to add support for 3UC and 4UC, or should i go to the maker of those mods for that?
