Don't worry, real life is more important. I was curious. I am most definitely NOT urging you to drop everything and get it done. :) Take your time, no pressure.
Did you get round to make a seed that would make the surface layer huge, and the cave layer small? (Like, swapping the size of each would be a good start.)
The mod intraction causing the bug appears to be Calamity, and the putrid island is a floating island with the "other" evil biome not spawned in the rest of the world. Custom seeds used via Adv. World Gen. were Meteor and Cloudy Day from this mod. Also, the "overhauled" config option for Adv. World Gen. was disabled.
im not sure if this goes for all seeds, but desertmania and rainy day just do the icemania when generating the world
HYPN0S (Alternative: T00-MANY-WAIFUS)
- Spawn in the Astral Blight Biome. Water within this spawn becomes Shimmer, and astral blight won't spread till after defeating your first mechanical boss
(Calamity)
Maiditas
- Spawn in the arena for Supreme Calamitas. A nearby locked golen chest is at the top, containing a maid outfit. (Loading screen, Supreme Calamitas final phase, and reaching the top plays this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO-vLip18Rs&pp=ygUPQmxlbmQtUyBvcGVuaW5n)
(Calamity)
BuiltStoopid
- Spawn in the Abyss. You can breathe in the Abyss (somehow)
(Calamity)
Fractured
- Biomes change every single day
(Thorium)
BuiltDifferentBuiltStupid
- Combination of BuiltStoopid and Fractured
(Calamity/Thorium)
My attempts with Advanced World Gen mod failed on errors, or produced far still too much underground and cavern when I raised world height to same as width (small world, so 4200x4200).
I just want to have a far bigger sky background than normal (going far deeper). :)
