I'm actually angry this got added. There are so many better cosmetics in the workshop, even better reference ones, and Valve adds this one. There must be some bias behind it, I doubt this was added cause it was that high quality or something. ♥♥♥♥ company.

from the perspective of the mercs, who know nothing about DOOM or Gladiator, it's literally just a gladiator helmet. if you have an issue with that, then how is the Diamondback era-appropriate? that's literally just a gun from Deus-Ex, which 100% wasn't a thing in the 60's/70s lol

If not the comments I would never suspect that the mask is based on anything else but the mask from Gladiator movie

look honestly I had some doubts about that myself, but its not like we're purely just profiting from him entirely. we still put the effort into making a cosmetic that fits in the game regardless of if you get the references or not, but I see it as a nice bonus that it also gives his fans something theyll like just because of the similarity. this is why I didnt want to make the mask only style as well

as for the promos, the lighting looks slightly different on the thumbnail because it was made in sfm and had a light directly on it to show it off nicely, but the second image here clearly shows it in game. everyones thumbnails are photoshopped in some way to look as good as possible

I don't know how to feel about this cosmetic. If this was supposed to represent the gladiatorial mask from the film, then I think it's an okay addition. However, the name and the promotional photos are meant to resemble MF DOOM's Madvillain with the white background and the red square in the top-right corner. While it is an interesting reference, I don't know how to feel about people profiting off of his image and likeness.

@pidalski It doesn't beleng to the game due to fact its a modern pop culture reference to rapper MF DOOM obviously. Both MF DOOM and TF2 are from different timelines, DOOM represents 90s hip hop and TF2 represents 70s industrialism. Hat is inproperly advertised since it looks differently ingame (dark grey instead of silver shade on workshop sprite).

yeah also styles cant use different equip regions, and most hats clip really badly anyway (look at how most hats come down past demos default hat)

and the faceplate and name of the cosmetic is already alot of referencing
