As of the last couple of years, the unusual effects added to the game have been bright, mystical, neon aura's searing from the player's head. I miss when we used to get novel and creative effects of olde, and this is a wonderful change of pace from that. I absolutely adore classic film and media, and their respective time periods. This would fit nicely into the game even if it is a bit unusual.
Pun intended.
However, I think it needs to be more polished. The images change instantly which makes you realize it is not an old camera; consider adding the shake and artifacts of old cameras.
