The flamethrower hose, for whatever reason, was attached to the left hand weapon bone. This is compensated for in all the flamethrower animations, except for the gestures where it returns to its default position, causing the stretching.

Fun fact, the pyros' tank on his back was originaly going to have a tube that would have linked it to the flametrower (kinda like how the medic's backpack does it with mediguns) but was removed before release due to this bug that couldn't find a way to fix
