@Bagel Yagaran lol I came here looking for the same thing. Doing a tribal run with lots of guard pets and the pets are completely breaking combat by being invincible. If they could lose health and pass out but not die, this would be perfect.

bwehh.. awesome mod but like... it would be even better if there was an option to allow animals to take damage (just not like. lethal damage or something) so that combat animals arent either completely infeasible in large raids or are just completely broken and they can still be downed without. making them play dead or whatever. yeah

in the menu theres a button called "Mod options" settings can be changed there, generally it already active for alot of the animals.

Hello, I´m new to the idea of using mods, but dam -i love my pets and I hate it, then my pawns shot them in a fight :(
My problem is, I have no idea how to use this mod.
Is there an ingame button or a discripsion how to start it? I have it in my Mod-list and I even started a new colony -but where do I find the settings? Or must I chance something in the game files? I´m using alpha animals too.

Can you disable manhunters by default? They make no sense anyway, somehow they know the exact positions of our pawns and go straight for them, instead of targeting the closest thing, which would at least make some sense and provide content or fun

Thank you! makes it way less annoying to have a chihuahua. Now the little menace can run around where he pleases without constantly getting hurt by a hunting lion or something.

I'm also encountering the issue where an animal trying to hunt a safe animal will keep attacking until they pass out from exhaustion. I wonder if there would be a way to invalidate safe animals as hunting targets

@machine-jean I added some extra buttons to the Exclude_List in settings to move all animals to or from the exclude list, so you can more easily exclude everything and then deselect just a couple. I think that's what you were asking for.

Hi! Awesome mod - love protecting my animals based on my irl pets ;-;
I was wondering, would it be possible to implement a "select/deselect all" action when setting which animals are protected? I want to protect my random pets, but I want my livestock/battle animals to be able to get injured (to incentive protecting them!)/I'd rather have protected animals be the exception than the norm!

Also this saved some of my pasture animals from a meteorite too, so it's great seeing the situations it works for!

There is one issue with this that's annoying under specific situations

So I accepted a quest to look after 9 animals with paralytic ablasia. That hediff seems to interact poorly with the 'play dead' mechanic, which means they're constantly trying to get out of bed and failing, which gives the 'animal needs rescue' alert and sends someone to put them back into bed.

I didn't realize there was an exclusion list until I came to report that, so THANK YOU I'll be adding those critters to it, but thought I'd still tell you about it just in case.

@Tybaxel okay. Added new option to protect pets from either all damage (turrets, flames, roof collapse, etc.), or just from living things (i.e. humans and other animals)

Defaults to protecting from all damage

hello! i was wondering if it would be possible to make pets immune to fire and turret damage? i have this mod installed but my pets keep taking damage from explosive attacks as well as my own turrets.

@The_awesome_possums and @ProfileName okay I finally figured it out. How my mod works is that it applies a comp on animals that uses the same system that vanilla shield belts use to prevent damage. Integrated Implants has what looks like a patch they were writing but never finished, that forces the game to skip over the step that my mod uses. Specifically, it loads this patch if the mod Athena Framework is not active. If you add Athena Framework to your modlist along with Integrated Implants, pets are kept safe just fine.

Doesn't seem to work with the Integrated Implants mod -- animals get injured again as normal. Only conflict out of 250+ mods so far.

Hello, I have a suggestion to improve your mod: add switching for animals depending on the level of training (this will help a lot when there are a lot of animals) and add an additional protection mode for individual animals (bleeding 10%, immunization rate 150%, these parameters can be made adjustable), so the fighting animals can fight normally, while the mortality rate of the animals will be very low

I love this, but wonder if one can make a whitelist for animals to apply it to?
Also, would be amazing if we could create groups with specific settings, especially if we could also seperate adults from babies in the settings. :3 Like, I want my cats to be safe and the baby Thrumbos, but the adult Thrumbos can fight together with my colonists. :)

I am far too attached to my digital pets. I feel bipolar when playing this game sometimes fr. Like "awwwe its so cute! I'm going to squeal and gape at it for a full 3 minutes!" goes to "NOOOOOO why is my cat all the way at the other end of the map hanging with lions who are now trying to kill her!?" in less than an hour.

There's a reason I don't like having pets in games, I get really sad and cry when they die :.........(

Oh I also noticed kind of an issue, if the pet is being hunted and poofs or downs, the hunter will never stop targeting them and will either chase them around the map as they teleport or sit at their incapacitated body forever trying and failing to eat it. I have animal bunker spot and would love it if they'd poof to there, or a spot your mod adds, so the hunter would be like oh I can't get there and move on.
Leaving the down one as is would be cool for those who want to have to fight to get their pet back, but for the poof, this kind of function would be great

I love this! However, it's super tough for me to configure. I'd love it if there was a way to swap exclusions to inclusions instead, or just a "move all" button. I want this to only affect about a dozen animals out of hundreds and moving the bulk of them one by one to exclusions is so hard

Update: hopefully the bug preventing closing the settings window is fixed. I got a log from someone who experienced it. I still can't reproduce the bug, but it at least gave me a general idea of what the problem was.

I forgot the menu not closing was an issue and I opened it in a game I was playing and I had to Alt+F4 to get out of the game. Nothing worked to close the window. When I restarted, just opening the settings window hangs the game without changing any settings at all.

I just had the same thing happen. I went into the exclude list, excluded all the animals I use for combat pets, then neither the close nor the X would close. I clicked on General settings to get out of the exclude list, and still could not close the window through either method, nor hitting escape. I don't remember every animal I added but it was the clawer and barkskin dryads, wolves, bears, thrumbos, all the big cats, and then I have the genetics mod so stuff like wolfbears and bearwolves, etc.

I added some animals to my excluded list but found I was unable to close the mod settings window. The 'Close' button didn't work, the 'X' in the corner didn't work, and neither did pressing the Escape key. I had to Alt+F4 out of the game and restart it.

@klaaare that's weird, Playing Dead works by setting the animal's max consciousness, in the same way that Anesthesia does. It shouldn't kill the animal. Can you give me an example of what animals you've seen die from this, and if they had any other health conditions at the time?
