Apologies for the misleading description! The bit about waterways has been removed. At the very least I can confirm the swim speed is fun in Adventure mode.
They're a bit less likely to catch depression and a bit more likely to generate positive thoughts compared to dwarves, and in their descriptions they will value art a bit more on average.
I'm not sure if the latter actually has a gameplay effect. It's mostly there to make their personality descriptions sound believable.
Their spleens are renamed to ink sacs because they have ink for blood
Also uh, what does "more cheery and artsy" generally mean? Curious cause I really love splatoon and wanna play this
For worldgen, they're as likely to show up as the other races. Your world could be all inklings or it could have none of them - if you have a lot of different civs you may not see all of them simultaneously, depending on world size/civ count.
