@Mickmane if you die, the next character should receive the magazine with an amount of XP equivalent as if you had watched all the shows. it checks to see upon character creation if your character has missed any of the shows

I'm confused.

Hosting my own world (multiplayer, but playing alone right now). New world, new char. What if the character dies and I make the next one to play on on the same world. Can he use the previous char's magazine, or make/find his own to read to catch up on missed shows?

Been looking for a mod that gives me access to TV shows way past their schedule time, hoping for a mod that has VHS tapes of it, but found this, and it looks useful. :)

Ah, i don't think you need the rain collector recipe in order to make them. You just need Carpentry 4, as far as I know, there are no recipes from the TV Show, the VHS Tapes however contain recipes.

does this give recipes from life in living cus i just dont want to miss out on things like rain collectors

@halfcatman1 the big problem is unlike other books, this provides solid XP. maybe with MP it wouldn't be a big deal, but on SP you could just create characters to get a 3-4 of these and max out your skills pretty quickly with multipliers.

i feel like this shouldn't be per account, but only per character, because its kinda lame how its meant to be something for if you missed life and living, but you can only do it on one character, so if you die, you lose anything from that, despite the fact all other books work the same regardless of character

Ah I didn't realize that about subsequent characters on the same account. That may be the issue, or like you said another mod conflict. The way I was testing was start on default day/time and die/make a new character once some shows have aired.

Nonetheless I made a decent carpenter build and my friend and I got a lot of VHS tapes so it's not a huge deal. Thanks for your responses!

@JUDGE so, i did some of my own testing. i created a multiplayer game with only my Life & Living Compensation mod installed. i fast forwarded through 8 days utilizing admin commands, and I instantly gained all the levels that were expected. Now, one thing to note, this doesn't work if you have created multiple characters under the same account, it only works on the very first one you create. Aside from that, I am not sure what may be causing it to fail, perhaps another mod conflict is my guess.

@JUDGE interesting, thank you, you did do some pretty extensive testing. interesting that the normal speed didn't correct the issue. based on what appeared in the code, that was most likely the culprit. i will see if i can dig in a bit further, there may have been an update that has changed the way the reading function works.

Ok I have some updates:
- I tried resetting the server pages per minute (reading speed) to default and using CC's faster reading mod. At just 2x reading speed it still didn't work (magazine just instantly disappeared upon reading)
- I went back to our previous world and tried the magazine without the faster reading mod or the settings changed (default speed) and the same thing happened

A few other things which I'm not sure really matter but may help troubleshooting
- Every time I've tried I've been using the slow reader and fast learner trait
- I've also used a 2x XP multiplier through the server settings

@Judge yeah, i think the boosted reading speed does it, makes it too quick to process the event

Yeah, we started a new world and it still didn't work - we use boosted reading speed through changing the server settings in notepad (not a mod) if that helps

@Judge it might be the boosted reading speed mod upon looking at my code.

It would need to be added before all the shows aired, is my best guess. It has been sometime since I have looked at it. Let me do some more testing and I will get back to you @Judge.

It is indeed a MP thing, basically it is as you found all the show info detailed down by someone.

The magazine updates as new shows are aired? Did I understand that right? Society has broken down, who prints the magazins? I guess it's made with MP in mind

Nope, it is only given if you spawn in after so many days have passed. The magazine is useless if you start on Day 1. It was meant to give people some type of XP boost when joining an existing server that has been running a bit.

So to be clear here, i could install this, spawn a fresh char, do other stuff for first 9 days ignoring life and living then come back on day 10 and read this to gain all 9 days worth of life and living?

Just curious if its possible to make a version that gives all the XP life and living normally gives but without having to watch the TV for the first 10 days. Would love to be able to speed up the start of the game.

Just the Life & Living Channel and its programs from the vanilla game.

Does this work with modded tv programs for another skills?

This is a great mod, however if I tweak it and move the Mag. XP to anything under 100 % it doesn't seem to work. Anyone else have this issue?

@BreakUrSelf what you might want to look into that would meet your needs is the Skill Journal, that one can be shared among any number of characters.

#1. It does work in SP as well.
#2. It is simply added to your inventory.
#3. So, this mod was basically made as a catchup for those joining a game already in progress. It only works 1 per steam account and once you have read it you can't read it again meaning sharing is pointless. In your instance, the additional characters would not receive it, basically it is impossible on SP unless you already have an existing game beyond day 1.

Hey! Really nice idea for a mod. I have few questions tho, if you don't mind.

1. This works with single player too?
2. How is the magazine added exactly? Do you need to loot it somewhere?
3. I like to play on different characters in my SP, hence I am interessted in this mod. Can my first char live through 1 week and all the shows, then aquire the magazine and give it to a newly made character? Can I do this several times? Aka have like 3-4 different characters as I usually do, and they all will benefit from this?
