@jeremiah I don't use beemod. I'm not the person to go to for beemod problems. Try googling your problem or asking in the portal mapping and modding discord

@dawgzero15 I can't explain how to use hammer in a comment. Learning hammer is not a simple process, the map you're commenting took me over 2 years of learning hammer to reach that point. If you're willing to make that commitment I would recommend searching for tutorials online, this channel has lots to help new people https://www.youtube.com/c/TopHATTwaffle . @dawgzero15 Yes you do it comes with Portal 2. On your steam library it will be called 'Portal 2 Authoring Tools'. Make you have tools ticked in the application filter above the search bar in your library.

@dawgzero15 I didn't make this using PeTI. I used hammer. On your steam library it will be called 'Portal 2 Authoring Tools'. You can find plenty of tutorials online to help but it does take a big time commitment to reach a stage where you can make this sort of map.

@glenmcd[AUS] As for the cube the glass obviously wasnt meant to be broken in the original test chamber before the facility collapsed, so originally you would have used the cube for the button. For this, The button just a motivation for the player to get the cube. the button was never intended to be the actual solution, it was always the glass breaking. That's the use of the cube. the gate meant to open up so that players don’t waste time going all the way back to place the cube when the test is already done. If i hadn't made it automatically open, i could probably expect you and many others to complain about me wasting peoples time by making them go back. Any additional buttons would make the original pre-destruction test unsolvable. So the use of the cube is to break the glass, it does have a use, just not a conventional use.

@glenmcd[AUS] Sorry but most of the issues you have listed are your own skill. falling into acid in this map is not easy, that is almost definitely your own fault. And for the stair timing, I was able to make that with a controller, with one hand, without using forward. I don't claim to be some god like gamer so if there is enough time for me to do that then i have no clue how you manage to fail with classic keyboard and mouse.

Not my cup of tea at all. Frustration at every turn. As a reward for progressing you get an acid bath. Being timed to go up snakey stairs that are easy to get stuck on. Waiting for Wheatley to progress. The cube that you fight to get hold of to open the gate, well you don't need it anyway coz the gate just opens, and even then it didn't need to. Tedium, frustration and redundancy kill the positives in this chamber for me.

This chamber is BEAUTIFUL and I absolutely love repurposed Wheatley lines. :p2wheatley: Getting to the puzzle, I think that the mechanics of it are really creative (which is obviously the benefit of the hammer editor.) I especially loved how sending the cube flying through the portal simultaneously shattered the glass and delivered it to the player. However, the test just solves itself afterwords, which I found really disappointing. I was really looking forward to solving it...

i think you might have misunderstood SpielSatzFail's critique.

he isnt saying the glass breaking was bad or asking you to add more buttons; i think he just wishes the cube had a use in addition to breaking the glass instead of solely existing just to break the glass.

a rephrase: "i liked the way the cube broke the glass, but i wish i could use the cube in the puzzle too"


my personal suggestion how you could satisfy the criticism in a simple way if you wanted; though obviously not saying you have to, is to have the button that normally dispenses the cube, instead cause an explosive malfunction with the dropper that ends up breaking the glass somehow instead of dispensing the cube. have the dropper sparking and stuff after that so players know its broken and wont be utilized for the puzzle any further.

Believe it or not, I am actually aware the test I went over in great detail for most a year would still work if not destroyed. For me, The button was never intended to be the actual solution, it was always the glass breaking. That's the use of the cube. Any additional buttons would make the original test unsolvable (I already considered it many times) or it would require a complete rework of the map.

TL;DR If i want to use a more creative and interesting use of elements for MY map i will do that.

Not using the cube for the puzzle itself is irritating. I mean breaking the glass is quite nice, but even without it the puzzle would make sense.
