Nova𓋹 20. sep. kl. 19:51
Please update to b42
Monkey Butt Gamer 2. sep. kl. 8:08
I don't think the illiterate learn to read should be a magazine, since you can't read, maybe a VHS tape or a CD, and you need a CD player and earbuds, to to add to the challenge.
Rachel L 11. aug. kl. 11:22
Can we get this to b42, please?
king8-savage 7. aug. kl. 17:42
hey so i read the learn to read book by i'm still illiterate is that normal
ItsThatGuyBayley 21. juni kl. 9:36
This is the best mod for reading and books, I hope you continue it as the game develops.
albion  [ophavsmand] 20. maj kl. 8:35
not yet
Fred 20. maj kl. 8:30
are there dvds or vhs tapes besides the learning to read book?
M1DN1GHT4488 16. maj kl. 10:32
does this work in b42?
TypicalWynter 24. jan. kl. 14:28
Are you currently planning to update this mod to B42?
Shadow 12. jan. kl. 14:49
b41 im not sure if its a mod bug but im having constant literacy +1 even if im maxed out, gaining 0.30 xp, this is breaking the trait purchase system because it cheats the progress
therealstash 29. dec. 2024 kl. 20:48
@albion Any ideas on why? im running V41 still and its the only mod i have and its turned on...
albion  [ophavsmand] 29. dec. 2024 kl. 20:36
if you don't see the skill at all the mod is not working
therealstash 29. dec. 2024 kl. 18:22
if i dont see the literacy skill listed does that mean the mod isnt working? or do i need the magazine first to show that skill?
albion  [ophavsmand] 7. dec. 2024 kl. 16:18
it doesn't sound like that's going to be an issue in b42 either way - though if b42's changes turn out well i may remove the 'learn to read' portion of the mod entirely
Stealth Inc 7. dec. 2024 kl. 14:35
Not so sure if replacing the magazine with a VHS tape would be a good idea if the goal is to prevent the "Illiterate" trait from acting like a permanent disability. An illiterate character, who does not pick engineer, after the power is shut off, would never be able to watch the tape, since you need to read the generator magazine to operate a generator and get power to watch tapes.
Pifilix.SVK 21. nov. 2024 kl. 13:37
I am 100% sure since i have only really found Aiming book 2, but barely can find the other ones. But i did download a mod which adds trait magazines, maybe it could be that one causing the issue?
albion  [ophavsmand] 21. nov. 2024 kl. 13:31
@ACHERONTIA the learn to read magazine will be replaced with a vhs in a future update, likely sometime during b42

@Alan Harper vhs tapes that give a skill boost (acting exactly like skill books do) are planned to come along with that update (alongside an overall nerf to xp gain to compensate)

@Pifilix.SVK all skill books are intended to have exactly the same rarity, if the aiming books really aren't spawning that may be a bug - make sure you have the sandbox option for gun books enabled
GravGunner 21. nov. 2024 kl. 12:47
I can confirm @R4skall soft incompatability.
Pifilix.SVK 20. nov. 2024 kl. 6:29
Not sure but is aiming skill books intended to be super rare to find? Been struggling to find a single one of them
R4skall 18. nov. 2024 kl. 12:10
found a soft incompatability with an extrordinairiliy organized literature mod, you cant read more then one page if you have the flag as read module turned on
Alan Harper 17. nov. 2024 kl. 1:43
I think it would also be interesting if there were grammar books and writing practice books to boost the literacy skill
Alan Harper 17. nov. 2024 kl. 1:39
@ACHERONTIA this is a fair point, how can someone learn to read by reading?
󠀡󠀡󠀡󠀡󠀡 15. nov. 2024 kl. 12:25
wouldn't it be cool if we get a VHS instead a magazine to learn how to read?
albion  [ophavsmand] 11. nov. 2024 kl. 19:15
1.3.0
-Safe Mode removed
-Fixed distribution sandbox options not applying in most situations
-Removed dependency on Item Tweaker and Profession Framework
-Fixed Literacy level not rendering in character creation.
-Fixed some (harmless) warnings on the server about unknown traits
-General performance improvements.
-Replaced any globals created by this mod with modules. If your mod hooks into this one it may need to be updated for compatibility. I don't think any mods are actually affected though.
- May help with issues with the literacy magazine not removing the illiterate trait.
Milenier/TTV 11. nov. 2024 kl. 13:07
thank you very much :3
albion  [ophavsmand] 10. nov. 2024 kl. 21:12
@grogcito load order should have no effect on the execution of this mod as it does not use file overrides

@Milenier/TTV #fixtf2 there is an issue with spawning generally, in most cases your settings are ignored - i was waiting for the mod's next major update to release the fix, but given that that's been waiting for around two years now, i may just cobble together some misc fixes into a small update soon and wait until after b42 releases for the actual content update
grogcito 10. nov. 2024 kl. 20:38
the mod must be placed after item tweaker and profession framework to get rid of the illiterate trait , in the server.ini file.
I had the same issue and that fixed it. You'll need to create a new character if you've already red the magazine though.
Milenier/TTV 9. nov. 2024 kl. 12:11
I have weird ah issue.
Got all the books checked to spawn, however they had only spawned in the spawn area (that being muldraugh trailer park). in that save file I have looted 6 major book spawn areas only to find maintenance (only weapons book) and agility books to spawn (other then base books).

the places I checked and found none of the books as per mentioned above: Muldraugh bookstore, Muldraugh School, Rosewood Bookstore, Westpoint book store, Westpoint mail office, Westpoint school.

could there be an issue on how the game decides which books to spawn and where?
Da1eer52 9. nov. 2024 kl. 11:51
I made a character with the illiterate trait but after reading Learn to Read I still couldn't read any books.
Mad.Maverick 30. okt. 2024 kl. 14:25
Having an issue with the Learn To Read Magazine not working on MP. I have Has Been Read and An Exhilaratingly Organized Literature Mod

https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2544353492

Wondering if either or both of these are conflicting with this mod. Any ideas?
TUCO 11. okt. 2024 kl. 10:13
read a book to read a book ahh mod
albion  [ophavsmand] 17. sep. 2024 kl. 10:35
oh you are a genius
Sling 17. sep. 2024 kl. 10:07
Nice mod, I use this with ETW for zero to hero runs. I was hoping you could still keep the magazine spawning along with the VHS tape you're planning to add in your next update. Otherwise illiterate characters won't be able to set up a tv with VHS once the power goes out since they can't read the generator mag
Mustang 27. aug. 2024 kl. 16:09
I see , can you please also implement an setting to change reading speed for the books and magazine apart , since with 2x speed , the magazines or books that increase the modd are being read instantly.
Haröld 26. aug. 2024 kl. 22:10
Ah, unfortunate but now I know. Thanks-
albion  [ophavsmand] 26. aug. 2024 kl. 21:30
@E̵ĺ̶̎ Ḡ̵͠a̷t̶ö̵ yeah, unfixable dynamic traits incompatibility
@Mustang no, but this has been implemented for the next update
Haröld 26. aug. 2024 kl. 21:02
Whenever I try reading a strength/fitness book, the multiplier lasts only a few seconds before disappearing. I read somewhere maybe Dynamic Traits mod screws with it but I'm unsure.
Mustang 26. aug. 2024 kl. 7:12
Hmm not sure , but does this mode have a bonus when you are sitting? (like on the chair/sofa) - the other one had like a 10% speed boost , would be nice to have one here if it doesn't have one.
albion  [ophavsmand] 25. aug. 2024 kl. 10:06
yeah
Mustang 25. aug. 2024 kl. 9:35
Does this work with True Actions (sit on couch/chair?)
Skoltr 19. aug. 2024 kl. 10:29
Update, as I made a backup this time, I had "Walk while reading" not cat's which also causes the issue. "Read faster while sitting" is fine
Skoltr 19. aug. 2024 kl. 10:24
Is there a list of incompatible mods? I read something about cat's walk while reading, but I just spend 12 days to finally find the magazine in Riverside's boat club but I didn't lose illiterate.

I restarted a run without cat's move while reading, though I did ad an alternative. Perhaps it doesn't work with dynamic traits?
Theridion 1. juli 2024 kl. 10:07
I enjoy the mod btw! :)
Theridion 1. juli 2024 kl. 10:07
Also, as a separate topic, and as a suggestion for potential consideration, would there by any interest in adding a trait called something like, "Skilled Reader," as essentially a new skill to represent the opposite side of your new "Poor Reader" trait?
It could give the opposite effect of Poor Reader, and give a +10% boost to the skill book boost multiplier.
(For example, that would turn a 3x boost from a Rank 1 book into 3.3x, and would turn a 16x boost from a Rank 5 book into 17.6x.)
It could cost 2 points, or more depending upon your balance vision, and I think should only be acquirable at character creation, but not at any point after.
I think it could be an interesting flip side to the Poor Reader trait, but I'm not sure whether it's within your balancing vision or not, so no worries if not!
Theridion 1. juli 2024 kl. 10:01
I'm not sure if this will be of interest to the author, but I've noted a soft conflict between this mod and the profession / trait rework mod below.
The mod linked below reworks Fast / Slow Reader to each hold a cost of 1 (+/-) rather than the default 2.
The conflict between these mods is that the two traits take on the cost of 1 from the mod below, but otherwise still seem to interact with the literacy skill as intended in increasing / decreasing the initial skill level in Literacy, based upon having either of those traits.

Bargian 22. juni 2024 kl. 4:10
Can we lose poor reader / slow reader?
albion  [ophavsmand] 20. maj 2024 kl. 22:01
there's a workaround for this, the rest of the update just isn't ready to release yet
RobRendell 20. maj 2024 kl. 21:31
It seems that when it loads a save, Zomboid builds the spawn lists for items before it loads the sandbox settings. As a result, no matter what you change this mod's skill book spawn options to in the sandbox settings, the spawn lists get populated with this mod's skill books based on the defaults whenever you load your save.

One way I can think of to work around this could be to make it that, instead of controlling skill books spawns via sandbox settings, control it by having each category of skill book in a separate sub-mod, and then we could enable the sub-mods for the skill book categories we want.
jlac15 23. mar. 2024 kl. 23:08
anyone not seeing the skill pop up when they host?
