As for the upcoming mod, it will take a while before I can finish it. It has a lot of new features and customization options (including controlling your start in a game in singleplayer), which I need to get all work seamlessly. So it won't be coming soon. But you can use this mod in the meantime if you want.

In that case, you should be fine using this mod. If it's just you and your friend in a Team, and there are no other Teams with more members, then you're more likely to get a spawn accurate to the start bias of your Civs with this mod, and still spawn near your friend. But of course Maps will also affect the spawn, like if you are Mali and your friend plays with Canada, but any Desert on the Map is at least 20 tiles away from Tundra, then only one of you will get a start on Desert/Tundra, while the other gets a start nearby. You can also use the sliders in advanced menu to control distance parameters.

You can have a look at the screenshots to see some examples. There are more start bias accurate starts than random ones (bc spawning near teammates is always prioritized), even with multiple multi-civ teams.

I want to be able to play with my friend in a team game without being half-way across the world (basically be a neighbour to my teammate). I also don't want stupid starts (ie: I had Tundra in every direction except the ocean as England recently). So pretty much I want both, at the moment I have to choose one or the other because of the incompatibility.

It sounds like your upcoming mod might be what I'm after. Good starts (that respect biases) and being next to my teammate is really my goal, the idea of combining the mods if it was possible was just an idea I had for a potential solution.

To achieve what this mod does the Game ignores a lot of good potential starts, which would mess with BBM, which already has its own complicated algorithms for spawning players and even altering the map. I'm not sure if it's even possible to combine them and still achieve the Goal of both, let alone the load of work and tests needed.

What exactly do you want from Player Starts beside what this mod offers? more balanced starts or starts that respect start biases?
Have you tried my other mod Origin before? it provides nice starts for all Players and also respects all their start biases. Although it isn't compatible with this mod yet, I've been sitting on a WIP update with the best of both worlds (and more), just needs some more work. If that sounds like what you want, we can talk about the details, including custom requests. Otherwise, trying to merge this Mod with BBM would be too difficult and cost more than you might think or willing to pay for.

This map will not load into an online Tilted Axes map for some reason. If there's anything I could give you to help fix this let me know.

Looks like it still works. Loaded in just to have a look and 3 of us spawned together (online).

Stopped working I believe. Just did a 2v2v2v2 and it put each partner on other sides of the map and on different continents.

you mean it broke your game eventhough it's disabled? that doesnt make sense. and what do you mean by broken, you can't start a new game or what?

BBS and this Mod rework the same script, so they are not compatible with each other. Which mod overwrites the other, that I don't know, if BBS has a higher load order than this onw, then BBS will be the one.

I'm not familar with that setting, is it from BBS?

And how does "Teamers Start Position" setting impact this?

does this work with bbs? or does one cancel the other?

Russia has Tundra as Start Bias not Snow.

I can increase the limit, but there is no guarantee that it will work, like it will depend on the map type and size and num of players in the Game. You might also need to restart lots of games in order to get the game to generate a map that can support long distance between team players while also away from other Players.

Any way to change the minimum distance to higher than 15?

@Turbotowns You can make a private multiplayer game with just yourself and have AI be on your team that way

Now if only there was a mod that added teams to single player...
