I tend to use the center piece as a relative guide. I couldn't figure out how to get an actual sight mode for the model. Nevertheless you shouldn't be sniping with it.

Truthfully I was hoping it would work after being repaired, but shoot I guess some component makes it break and not work. I'm not really sure what it could be, but I'll have to look into it when I work on a new turret

Huh, I wasn't aware of that before. I'm not really sure how I would fix it though, getting it to do this fancy animation system and stuff has made if have a lot of bugs. I guess that's a new one, the other one I notice is that the AI move the turret at the same speed if you're in slow motion or real time. It's strange for sure

Hey wanted to say love your work also wanted to mention a bug i've noticed (don't know if you're still maintaining this or not) when the gun gets destroyed and i repair it with the wrench the gun won't reload or shoot anymore don't know if you were aware of that or not but anyway other then that great mod

The sight you're talking about isn't actually a sight I don't think, these old cannon rarely had a sight I do believe, maybe a little notch at the end of the barrel on some. That is, at least what I believe to be, the cock which holds the flint to ignite the powder charge. I was just an idiot and didn't animate it on the firing animation.

It'd be pretty hard to aim straight forwards at any other angle unfortunately, I've tried but they never quite worked out. I did like the side view but aiming was much harder that way

Turrets are a huge pain to make, so no. At least not for a while - this thing has been in development for many months. The bullets are extremely low poly and look square-ish though so you could perhaps pretend they are.
