The way that I got started with mod making was basically fiddling with numbers that seemed relevant. Its been over a year since i've touched these files, but I do believe that everything relevant to the weapon will be in the .txt file associated with it. The parameter names are also mostly intuitive.
Keep working on it because its coming along great

Hmm, about the Diggers only mode... I labeled this mod as Vanilla balanced but only because there are weapons capable of defeating Spartans in the vanilla version if used correctly (ex. Rocket launchers, a lot of techion stuff, etc.) however if you're ill equipped to beat them, you're out of luck, unless you do some jetpack karate and gib them. I dont think i can help you there. You would have the same problem with W40k and some other mods as well.
