So update. The ai_potential for the decision has been set to always off, with a note by a dev that this will be fixed later. I've been testing with that changed to always on, and I'm not seeing any differences in game behavior. So I'm not sure what's going on, but it would mean that without mods, AI are hiring court physicians purely through other events and not through this decision, I guess?

I'm testing a possible replacement mod that adds the interval change. Not sure if I can make it a "major" decision though like the original mod did for the original decision, so there would be no "alert" feature.

The new change to hire a court position (physician, caravan master, wet nurse, and others) makes this mod now fully incompatible. Installing this mod will create a separate hire a physician decision (the original one) that is not subject to the changes with landless adventurers, etc.

For the new court position decision, the AI check interval is still 60 (5 years). An updated version of this mod would reduce this down to 6 like before, but this interval check would also apply to the other possible court positions as well.

I looked at the latest code, and the game files match this mod (except for the changes it makes). The 90_minor_decisions.txt was updated March 5, but the part with the AI hiring physicians didn't change.

Therefore, this should work fine, is still needed, and does not need an update.

Yeah I see what you mean, Paradox have made it so in the triggered event (health.3001) the AI now only gets a random low skill option, with dev comments that they think it's too performance intensive for the game to find the AI decent options.

When I first published the mod, to allow the AI to take the decision to get a doctor at all, the associated event had better options for the AI that were more or less the same as the players. I never found it performance intensive.

It's definitely fixable if someone wants to mod that event. Note if you use all my mods I also need to include health_events.txt in my Random Date Black Death mod so beware your edits will clash with that.

Is it possible to tweak that the AI doesn't hire the worst possible physician? I've checked multitudes of characters and most often than not their physician is of "poor" quality, very likely the AI picks the cheapest option even if they have 10x the funds for it.

Nothing's changed since the v1.5 Royal Court/Fleur-de-lis update. Vanilla AI will take the decision and hire doctors, but will only check the decision every 5 years, and not if they are at war. The mod makes it so the AI check every 6 months, even if they are at war.

Updated for Royal Court/Fleur-de-lis. Tweaks the hire court physician to increase AI uptake of doctors in line with v1.5 enabling AI to take the decision; AI will check the decision every 6 months rather then every 5 years, and can take the decision even if they are at war; they will now need 30 gold. Adds/keeps player alert when the doctor position is vacant.

Paradox have now updated the decision in v1.5 to make the AI take the hire physician decision. The differences now with the mod are:
AI will only check the decision once every five years vs twice per year in this mod.
You can't be at war to hire a doctor.
You have to have 30 gold.
You can only take the decision once per year, versus once every three months (more a limit on the player).

I think having the AI only check every five years is still a big problem. I'll update the mod to bring in the vanilla tweaks but have the AI check much more frequently.

Is this still needed in Royal Court? Since there are various court positions (Physican being one of them) then maybe AI will now use all options available just fine?

Hope this one of your mods gets an RC 1.5 update quickly (if needed --- doesn't look like it was touched in the patch noted). Since all your fervour mods are related to eachother. This and black death would be I hope be quicker and easier.

It should work fine together with 'Useful Court Physicians' by Murden. There's no incompatibility in the code of either mod, and looking at how Murden's mod works they should compliment eachother.

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I am going to assume that it doesn't work with "More Useful Physicians" mod? I love that mod and I wish I didn't have to make a choice, but I probably will have to.

It could be done, but that part of the code is handled in a vanilla event that this mod doesn't touch. This mod tweaks a vanilla decision to allow the AI to also take the decision (and to make it a major decision so you get an alert), the way the decision works in the mod and vanilla is to trigger a vanilla event that does the grunt work of hiring the physician and paying him. TBH I don't think the physician cost is worth creating a modded game rule over, it's paired to generic minor (30) and major(?) (100) gold values for balance depending on the quality of the physician, I don't see how much would change by tweaking the costs.
